This arose one evening at a Dartington summer school when three of us were left with nothing much to do so we decided just to write a two or three part fugue, see how we got on.This was my effort. A Little fugue-050612 - 160.mp3

Ivor replied to HS Teoh's discussion Fugue in A flat
"Nice one! Lively, positive, uplifting. I appreciate the skills that go into writing fugues but alas lack them except for a single attempt which I might offer up here.
Looking at your score it looks far from easy to play but can be managed with two…"

Ivor replied to Ivor's discussion Dialogue from Sailmaker Beach
"David, sincere thanks for listening and the kindness of your comments.
I've tried several times to explain myself here only to delete and start again. Basically I'm okay with diatonic harmony but chromaticise it.   I think these no better release…"

Ivor replied to Ivor's discussion Dialogue from Sailmaker Beach
"Many thanks for your comment and listening to it, HS Teoh. I'm please it made some sort of sense though even if not built along classical lines. I can't understand the mechanics of it myself too well but the gradual filling out of a "thirdless"…"

Recently composed, I've truncated to just on 6 minutes. It's an impressionist piece (fairly tonal but modern). The story is about a male and female out in a desert region late in the afternoon, gradually admitting a fondness for each other. The…

Ivor replied to Christopher Wheeler's discussion Ontoño Árido
"I found these pleasnat, romantic and in a way given your description fairly autumnal. Each flows nicely but they all seem around the same tempo.  One noticeable issue came at 4'32" in "Septembre". Until that point they could have passed off as live…"

Ivor replied to Stephen Ferre's discussion Interludes
"I picked up the Symphony No 4 from your list.
I was unfortunately interrupted just before 10 mins but I'll be back sooner or later for the rest.
I'm very comfortable with this style. a very contemprary feel.  Most engaging.  The thematic material is…"

It looks like I'm back in business now the VSL problem has been sorted out. Working on a new orchestral piece.Meanwhile I don't think I submitted this piece. I was thinking of extending it to back a clip of a garden of fountains with the usual terra…

Ivor replied to Ivor's discussion Music for Orchestra - Peggy's Garden
"It finally turned out to be an iLok problem. Once Johannes had checked that everything SHOULD work okay it could only be a windows update or the iLok. For some reason it went 'out of synch' The iLok site has a button "iLok not working?" and the…"

Ivor replied to Stephen Ferre's discussion Interludes
"Having had a chance to get back here, I could quite easily manage this short extract and I too found it impressionistic - fine by me as I consider myself from the same mould.
Also agree with gregrorio j I was hoping to hear more.   The closing note…"

"Hello gregrorio j
Thank you indeed for your comment and I'm pleased it made some sort of sense!
Most encouraging. All I need now is to get my computer to work with VSL again and hope to make progress.

Ivor replied to Ivor's discussion Music for Orchestra - Peggy's Garden
"Many thanks for your comments, David.   Yes, it was meant as a mood piece shifting between dark and light.
VSL- You've hit it dead on. It was working one evening then Windows did an update. Next evening it wasn't. It's still in the hands of support…"

I haven’t been in for a while, initially having to do a revision/update course for work (a boring month if ever).   Now VSL has broken down for no apparent reason and I’m still getting help.  Lucky my income isn’t relying on it. “Peggy’s Garden” is…

Just wondering what others think about this. For me, producing a useful score - one that could be submitted to professional directors/orchestras - is hard work. I start on paper in short score; then move it into a daw. By then most if not all the…

Ivor replied to David's discussion Piano Nocturnes 6-9
"Apologies I haven't been on to reply until now. The reason I asked for a score - really - was, here and there, to find out how you did it! I'm a mediocre pianist myself but did beaver away at a couple of Liszt studies and the "Summertime" episode…"

Ivor replied to David's discussion Piano Nocturnes 6-9
"A pity you've been unable to leave a score as The works seem pretty demanding. So far, if anything, I enjoyed the 8th a little more - possibly because it seems less abstract if that makes sense. The opening bars during which the right hand fades to…"

Bio

I cam from the earlier, canned forum. Was known there as "Dane". IT has been my stage name since I started playing lounge at receptions, occasionally hotels and restaurants - something I've more or less given up now.

I had a problem signing up because of the dreadful password demand. Still don't know how to contact the admin if I can't sign in. The site seems to lack the usual "contact us" or "contact the staff" buttons.

So, if I diappear it's because I can't sign in.
