Ivor replied to Saul Gefen's discussion String Symphony In D major No. 3
"Nice piece, Saul, easy to listen to. I know we agreed not to review each other's work but I had time to spare. You also know my disdain for 'tonal' even if I fall into it myself at times.
It would have been nicer if the second part was in a…"

Ivor replied to Ivor's discussion Symphonic Movement for Strings (4 mins 20 secs)
"Thank you, David, for listening and your comment. You seem to have felt the mood. It isn't one of my "usual" moods personally but it actually leaves me empty when I listen to it. Frankly, I'm surprised it worked out at all which is more than I can…"

Ivor replied to Ivor's discussion Symphonic Movement for Strings (4 mins 20 secs)
"Many thanks for your comment and listening. Yes, the Locrian and like Mennin I put triads on each other the notes which accounts for the "major" sounding cadences VI-II in this mode.
I'm still fond of Mennin's work. If anyone tempted me toward…"

Ivor replied to Guy Shahar's discussion Is This Recognisable?
"Interesting about the solo voices. Unfortunately your track has been removed. I also bought the solo voices and truly love the mezzo and coloratura. I've written a few things for some of these voices. Although the articulations are limited, using…"

Ivor replied to Rowy's discussion Let it snow
"Alas, nothing Christmassy but after my toubles with iLok/Vsl were resolved, have started putting a new piece together. The UK skies have been so overcast this aurumn/winter (I've counted only 10 days of sunlight from dawn until dusk so far this…"

A tonal piece based on an unusual mode inspired by Peter Mennin. It was more a technical exercise but not being as clever as Mennin I had to reject all but the slow movement (submitted here). It's also more true to the mode. The atmosphere has a…

Hello again,I submitted an earlier version of this quartet some time ago on the earlier forum but it needed trimming down a bit. It comes from a more tonal era (for me). It's four short impressions of a small tropical town for flute, cor anglais,…

Ivor replied to Steven Linden's discussion Ode for string orchestra
"Certainly seems to reflect current evenets: morose, endlessly but quietly marching forward. Good rendering and some clever doubling of the thematic content.
Easy to listen to."

Ivor replied to Peter Iverson's discussion A Fold in the Fabric of the Night
" A most accomplished piece and frankly the mood of night was immediate to me. Unseen things stirring. Great string sound and rendering. This could pass as a live performance on a recording. There were just moment when things were VERY quiet that…"

Ivor replied to Ivor's discussion A little fugue (just over one minute)
"May I be forgiven just doing a single reply, please? Otherwise identical individual replies build up the thread unnecessarily!
Just to say thank you all for these most encouraging comments and for listening.
It looks like I did submit the piece in…"

Ivor replied to Brett Harrington's discussion "The Tone-Tale Heart" - A Tone Poem for Wind Quintet and Percussion
"Hi Brett
I listened to a few bars then decided I'd best read the story before going on.
The music starts boisterous and abrasive but moves into calmer apprehensive moments and I think it's very much in keeping with the atmosphere of Poe's story. …"

Ivor replied to HS Teoh's discussion Fugue in A flat
"Nice one! Lively, positive, uplifting. I appreciate the skills that go into writing fugues but alas lack them except for a single attempt which I might offer up here.
Looking at your score it looks far from easy to play but can be managed with two…"

Ivor replied to Ivor's discussion Dialogue from Sailmaker Beach
"David, sincere thanks for listening and the kindness of your comments.
I've tried several times to explain myself here only to delete and start again. Basically I'm okay with diatonic harmony but chromaticise it.   I think these no better release…"

Ivor replied to Ivor's discussion Dialogue from Sailmaker Beach
"Many thanks for your comment and listening to it, HS Teoh. I'm please it made some sort of sense though even if not built along classical lines. I can't understand the mechanics of it myself too well but the gradual filling out of a "thirdless"…"

Bio

I cam from the earlier, canned forum. Was known there as "Dane". IT has been my stage name since I started playing lounge at receptions, occasionally hotels and restaurants - something I've more or less given up now.

I had a problem signing up because of the dreadful password demand. Still don't know how to contact the admin if I can't sign in. The site seems to lack the usual "contact us" or "contact the staff" buttons.

So, if I diappear it's because I can't sign in.
