Let it snow

I couldn't find a thread about the upcoming holidays, so I decided to create one. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I wonder, have you written anything Christmassy yet? Although I usually don't share my work, I feel I shouldn't hold back on this one. After all, this is personal.

  •  I haven't written anything for a while and can't really until the situation becomes clear with my computer. The new one doesn't work properly (currently being checked out by the shop) and I temporarily put an old hard drive in the old one so I can at least do non-composing related things on it but there's no space for my libraries.

Not sure what to make of your mini piece. Do I detect a note of sarcasm in it?

    • Sarcasm? No, it’s just a typical pianistic composition for piano four hands. Naturally, it includes a bit of everything. Occasionally, there’s even a speed bump, for instance, because in my country, there are very few places left where you can ride a sled pulled by a horse, especially in the city. Now that I think about it, snow is actually quite rare here too. And a horse isn’t exactly welcome in the city. A sled might be allowed, but it would take forever to get the necessary permits. But otherwise, it’s all about the Christmas spirit. Actually, it’s a very modern composition. I left out the jingle bells. Very daring, I know.

Because you're enjoying this, I'll add another example.

    • I guess I must just be in a bad mood then with all the things which have been going on recently.

    • I know how you feel. I bought extra hard drives, so I always have a backup. Once a month, I make copies. A friend of mine, who knows all about this stuff, mentioned that I should use a NAS. However, since her NAS broke down and she lost EVERYTHING, I prefer simple hard drives that I can put in a drawer—different drawers, of course. You never know.

    • I liked the Sleigh Ride better, it had more quirky chords that's more interesting to listen to harmonically.

    • Thank you. These are older compositions I arranged for Piano 4-Hands. I don't write like this anymore unless I need something more 'commercial.' I now prefer free counterpoint—it feels more satisfying.

  • It's quite well written. Neat and tidy, catchy, and cheery- I liked it and would very much enjoy playing it with another at the piano. Thanks for sharing this and spreading a little holiday cheer.

  • Alas, nothing Christmassy but after my toubles with iLok/Vsl were resolved, have started putting a new piece together. The UK skies have been so overcast this aurumn/winter (I've counted only 10 days of sunlight from dawn until dusk so far this year) and. well, it's not so much depressing as attenuating (the doc has me down as an S.A.D case), so I turned to a bit of "light music"t

I hope it doesn't snow - everything in the UK stops wehn anything goes half-a-degree off the normal. I'm no fan of winter.

However, I wish you and all on the forum a merry Christmas and a grand new year.  "Eat drink and be merry!" gets me though!

    • Same weather here in the Netherlands. I haven't seen the sun for 12 days. Although there is some color in the sky: light grey, grey, and dark grey. Snow, you say? I wished we had a bit of snow. It's the damp cold that is annoying.
