Hello! It's been forever since I've posted on here, and I just remembered about its existence so I thought I'd post my most recent work on here.
This piece is a tone poem for wind quintet and two percussionists, based off of Edgar Allen Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart". It uses a multitude of different styles and perrcussion instruments in order to convey the dark, brutal, and frantic nature of the original story.
While I highly recommend that you read the short story before listening to the work, I can't make you do anything and would highly appreciate any comments, regardless of whether or not you read the story beforehand.
Attached to this post, I have a link to the story, an mp3 a mockup made in MuseScore, and a PDF of the score.
Thank you for reading and please leave any thought regarding the piece for me!

Hi Brett
I listened to a few bars then decided I'd best read the story before going on.
The music starts boisterous and abrasive but moves into calmer apprehensive moments and I think it's very much in keeping with the atmosphere of Poe's story. Well done.
Musically it makes sense.
My only crit is that 'balance' between pats sometimes suffers and this has always been a problem with Musescore (at least, early versions of it). In my very limited experience, I found I needed to do two copies of the score - one in which the dynamics were false to get the balance right, the other in which the dynamics were as I'd want published.
There were points in which what seemed important entries in the score were lost under the rest of the ensemble.
Not a comfortable piece, then, but certainly listenable.
All the best.
