Hi - I've just bought VSL Solo Voices, and thought that a good way to learn to write for voices might be to make an unusual cover of a well-known song. I've chosen "If I Fell" by The Beatles.
However, as the cover is so differently arranged from the original and contains a few random embellishments; before going any further with it, I'd like to know if it's actually recognisable to someone who knows the song.
I'm attaching the first 50 seconds or so. Could someone please let me know?
Update - I've released the final version now - link below:

OK -- when listening straight after the original, one can see that its based on the Beatles tune but without being told it, I very much doubt that many would see the connection to be honest. Obviously your harmonic world is very different (and, to be frank, quite intriguing so I'd like to hear the whole piece!)
Thanks a lot David. Yes, maybe I'll raise the volume of the melody line slightly - that might help it a bit, at least for someone who knows the original (it was actually much louder before and stood out too much and I think I've over-corrected...). Yes, the harmonic style took me by surprise too - I wasn't expecting it. Not sure where it's going to go from here. I'll post the full track in the forum here when it's finished.
Interesting about the solo voices. Unfortunately your track has been removed. I also bought the solo voices and truly love the mezzo and coloratura. I've written a few things for some of these voices. Although the articulations are limited, using the slot rack in the VI player and delicate handling of dynamics, rather a lot can be done.
Here's one of my more modern works for mezzo and strings (mostly solo) (3mins 45secs)

It's a great track, Ivor, and you integrate the voices very naturally!!!
I'm more of a beginner, so I know my writing is still a bit clunky and undeveloped, but I do really like how the harmonies turned out on my track. I took down the preview version and there's a link to the final version in the post above now.
I'll add it here too.
