Sextet for Oboe + String Quintet - (3min 33 sec)

I finished a couple of chamber pieces recently, this one last month. Having given it a tart-up today, rendered it. It'll probably be part of a 3 movement work if I keep it.

The strings are muted throughout.

Large orchestral scores were giving me a headache so I opted for something easier-going even if it isn't in a style I was hoping to develop. However, said style may still be possible in subsequent movements.

Any crit, good or bad would be most appreciated so thank you if you comment and give it a listen.

Cheers.

  • this flows very nicely and I particularly like the writing for oboe --  with the strings, I'm not always totally convinced by the sordino articulation and it sounds rather too reverberant for proper chamber music. However, I don't have any quibbles with the music itself which certainly doesn't outstay its welcome.

    • A lovely piece. The melodic contours have a wistful yet bouyant quality - very attractive. The oboe (so 'vocal') works so effectively with the string quartet.
