To Pete S

Hi Pete:

I guess a lot of the age thing is subjectively internalizing the toll that 40 years of clients
have taken upon my psyche :)

Don't get me wrong ..I've had many great clients that were a pleasure and a challenge to work with on a repeated basis ..

but then, there were the OTHER 60% ..

Maybe I'll start a blog so we can all tell our "client horror stories" ..especially the ones that became funny after some years of space flavored them a bit
!

New Projects update: MY new Origin CD and Primo Kims new vocal CD

I'm really excited about the two projects I've managed to bring to fruition this summer: My third Big Band CD and a vocal project for Seattle singer / pianist
Primo Kim . The vocal project couldn't have been pulled off without the invaluable help of fellow composer Chris Alpier, who managed to turn three full live symphonic orchestrations into actual music with his programming skills. ( unfortunately , due to copyright restrictions, I can't post the final tracks here, but when the CD is avaiable… Continue

how i spent my wonderful (barf ) holiday season ...

hi forum folks:

if anyone has noticed my absence from these parts lately, i just got home from two weeks in the clutches of the medical establishment after being blown over by sudden wind gust on to 50 or so acres of slanted blacktop
on the ferry dock on orcas island ( in the san juan is ) where i'd been having a nice visit with jazz trumpetist/ jazz ed guru guy willie thomas on the weekend of 12-14 ..16.

ironically, the accident occurred on my 70th b/day.. (12-16) and i was in medical prison… Continue

Scoring Biz: Now and in the Mesozoic era - Part Deux: Spotting and Music Prep.

When I was began working in situations that required my music be in synch with the visuals many things were different -among them :

1. There were no computers with Quicktime built into the DP ( or whatever sequencing program was to come )

2. Scoring to projected film was pretty much restricted to LA , NYC, and one place in Chicago.

3. Due to the budgets we were working with, there was no provision for "music editor" ..that would be your gig ( prior to writing the score ).

Other than pre-reco… Continue

Scoring Biz: Now and in the Mesezoic era ( with live players and minimal computer help )

I would guess I am no doubt the oldest person on this list ..
Therefore, I will answer to the following names:

Eminince Grise
Dinosaur
Old Fart
( or others of your choosing )

Anyway ..since I've been doing this ( "this' being writing all kinds of music for money ) for over 40 years, I have been priveleged to watch the industry evolve in an interesting fashion over the years, both for good and evil ,depending upon your viewpoint.

When I started recording in the mid 50s ( cutting rock and roll… Continue

Funny! I cam here today to find out when your CD would be released, and that info is at the top of your page. Great! Will your music be available on iTunes? I get most of my music from there these days. Anyway, I can hardly wait for the CD release.

The start of Rain/Red Badge brings to mind an old romantic film from the 30s. Then it gets warmer and more modern. I like it. BTW, I grew up in Washington state. It's a nurturing environment for creativity.

Dig it! Gauvin and Randazo went to my high school in Huntington Long Island. They were there 25 before me of course. Randazo is now a chef. I actualy met Joe through our mutual friend David Berger. Berger used to lead the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and Randazo was the road manager.

Yeah, I see all those guys from time to time. You must also know Alan Gauvin and John Marshall, right?

Lanny Morgan! That explains it. Say, my lead alto man in NYC says he knew you back in Texas. Do you remember Chuck Wilson?

I checked out Blueonious on your websight. You're swinging 'em into bad health. I noticed you're from Bellingham. Is that Chuck Isreals at the bass? It's hard to tell out of my little laptop speakers, I'll have to listen again to your stuff in my studio on a proper system. Your band sounds good, somewhat reminiscent of Oliver Nelson or Quincy Jones recordings. Your lead alto man reminded me a bit of Jerome.

Anyway, I'll did ya later. Gimme a shout if you get to NYC. 914-663-8323

Hi Phil, thanks for checking out my sight. The big band track there isn't really my band, it's just me and two other cats playing all of the parts. That should explain why the drummer sucked, because it was me! Anyway, there are some clips of my big band on YouTube. Just search "Andy Farber & his Orchestra"

Thanks for the props Jery -

Now that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel on this project, I'm starting to get excited about getting it moving!
