This is a piece I wrote about 2 years ago and am thinking about substantially revising because I think it has a lot of unrealized potential.  All suggestions and feedback are welcome and much…Continue

orchestration question re: alternating wind players in same section for long, sustained notes

Started this discussion. Last reply by Bob Porter Dec 22, 2016. 38 Replies

Suppose I want to have the winds doubling the strings in a slow, sustained section, and there's just no way the wind players can possibly breathe as long as the string players can bow the notes. Is…Continue

Requiem for the Victims of Religious Violence for String Orchestra

This is a very rough work-in-progress.  Score is not in presentable form yet, but below is a midi mockup of the current draft. I'm interested in any general thoughts you may have; my main concern…Continue

Thanks for taking a look and listen to this. It's very much still in progress (though it has been so for quite some time now), and the score has a lot of cosmetic issues I'm working out. Score: …Continue

"Hello RS, Thanks for your response. "perhaps the implied meaning was actually 'in the name of religion'." Perhaps it was.  Anything is possible.  One might have said so. "That is how I interpreted it. A title is…"

"I'm using East West Composer Cloud with a $30/month subscription and it has some good sounds. It wants a lot of memory and has a learning curve for sure. I hope to post a sample of my efforts soon. You can turn the subscription on and off so…"

"First off, some questions....  Do you have a DAW and music sequencing programme? Or are you just using the notation software and if so, what software? Are you Mac or Windows? Are you familiar with sequencing music and mixing in…"

"Thanks so much, Mike. What are some good, reasonably-priced sample libraries that you would recommend? I have actually downloaded something called "Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra" which I've read good things about, but I can't make…"

"Hi Stephen, The only problem is the tempo. The parts are playable, but not at that tempo. You would have to slow quite a bit to make it work. I would suggest you try it at around crotchet bpm of 170-180. At this tempo the players would still be able…"

"Dave, I kinda like 'prejorative' better. It implies an elitistist mentality bias or prejudice towards another. Regardless, my poor spelling still seemed to transmit the meaning , so thanks for proving my other point. The gist of any…"

"Perhaps move it to a place where it won't drown someone's music submitted for feedback. I'm dreadfully old-fashioned, I know. And jesus god, if you're going to pastiche me at least spell the word right. Pejorative.…"
