About Me (Must include at least one paragraph of biographical information about you as a composer) - blank or minimal answers on this line will cause your request to be rejected. Include a link to your website if you have one.
My musical background started with the recorder (didn't most musicians?) at a young age before taking up the cornet in my local brass band (Kirkintilloch Band). Playing in a recorder group before learning brass was a remarkably good grounding - ensemble playing and learning to read music.

I progressed through the brass band movement in Scotland, eventually moving onto Euphonium, joining the Army in 2000 and serving with the Royal Artillery Band and Orchestra and the Royal Regiment of Scotland Band before leaving the army in 2011.

Most of my compositional work so far has been arranging, much of it by trial and error as I have no formal training in that area. I produced several christmas arrangements for orchestra, exercise s that I learn't a lot from. I have produced one or two arrangements for wind band, including a selection of Burns songs arranged for the RRS Band.

Since I left the army my time has been limited by my new job, but I have arranged mainly for brass band, and finally got round to writing my first original work, a solo for Eb Horn and brass band - a birthday present for my sister. Fortunately she liked it!

My output is averaging around one a year at the moment, but my next project is likely to be for brass band again - when I can find the time and motivation.
