A tonal piece based on an unusual mode inspired by Peter Mennin.
It was more a technical exercise but not being as clever as Mennin I had to reject all but the slow movement (submitted here). It's also more true to the mode.
I submitted an earlier version of this quartet some time ago on the earlier forum but it needed trimming down a bit. It comes from a more tonal era (for me).

This arose one evening at a Dartington summer school when three of us were left with nothing much to do so we decided just to write a two or three part fugue, see how we got on.
Recently composed, I've truncated to just on 6 minutes.
It's an impressionist piece (fairly tonal but modern). The story is about a male and female out in a desert region late in the afternoon, gradually admitting a fondness for each other.

I'm putting together two pieces represeting the mood of the sun in the heat of summer and the moon at a similar time. This is the first one. Probably best described as symbolist / fairly tonal; through composed based on a couple of motifs that recur
This is a bit modern. Duration 6 minutes. I was thinking of it opening a suite of 3 pieces for mezzo / orchestra. I'm stuck on a slow movement at the mo - and this is a "style" I've been trying to break f

Recently completed. Doesn’t represent much of a stylistic development for me as it reverts to symbolism, something from which I was hoping to move away.
Just a way of introducing myself. On the old forum I was known as Dane - my stage name for a long time - times that fade increasingly into the past so I'll use my "real name" here (which means having my user id changing if that's possible.
