  • Don't tempt me. I don't have an accordion, but I do still have Notion on my iPad;)
  • Good advice if you own an accordion.

This begs the next question, though: when can we hear some accordion music? ;-)
    • Ah, accordion music, now that would be a ray of light in the dark room of modern composition. I might just set up my 'puter tonight and see if there's an accordion amongst the Kontakt libraries. It's time to write an accordion ditte, I fear (and everyone else should fear, as well). I wonder, what's the practical range of an accordion?
    • According to Wikipedia, the range varies depending on the model and make of the instrument. But generally the usable range is about a little bit over 3 octaves, from F3 to A6.
    • There is an accordion among the virtual instruments. I should know because I used one, though it was a long time ago, and I've forgotten its name. Nonetheless, I no longer require it. I composed an album featuring the accordion in remembrance of my father, who played various instruments but had a particular fondness for the accordion. I must have been exposed to a great deal of accordion music as an infant, which could explain why I seem to be immune to its sound.
  • Written in my other life as a musical tart, perhaps this'll quench the thirst for things accordian until Bridget posts something. I can't remember the sizes or types of accordian used but there where two of them in the band. Interestingly perhaps, this was recorded in studio 2, the 'Beatles' studio at Abbey road Studios. For this scouser there was as you might imagine, a particular resonance with the place.

    • This is very familiar to me, I think you've posted it before when discussing clarinets? Iirc they had it down in a few minutes and you lamented not having any spare music to use up the remaining time on.

I'm sorry, but I do like your tart music. It's very easy to imagine you knocking this off in half an hour whilst smoking in the manner of a bored Frenchman, probably because of the accordians.
    • It happened on more than one occassion. Iirc, on that session I was expecting a live link with the agency in New York but they didn't call in until later so yeah, a wasted opportunity to get some music recorded under the radar. I can't remember how long that one took to write, maybe a bit longer than 30mins :-). It did get boring at that time as every other brief/client wanted a musical child born of the soundtrack from 'Amelie'.
This was the first and only piece where we spent a few minutes in session on alternative bowings to get the string phrasing just so as my written bowing wasn't quite there.
  • Phew, my arms are tired.

    • This sounds great. Any change we get a glance at the score?
