Mike Hewer replied to Ramon Capsada Blanch's discussion String Quartet. Isometries.
"The mistake is to confuse the two previous spaces and use low-power tools to solve problems of great significance, such as that of a machine to make, with total autonomy, musical creation. That is when inconsistent products are obtained: beneath an…"

Mike Hewer replied to Bob Morabito's discussion Sibelius plug-ins
"Bob,
Oh I know you understand. But I'll try to make it clear for all, so speaking of originality here are some questions.
1)...As you often eschew any approval of technique and craft in composing, because it apparently leads to un-original thinking…"

"Is there a plug-in to help one compose without any prior knowledge of the actual craft of music, you know like a preset of some sort. It'd save time and if I use it without any semblance of consideration for anything musical, it might, just might…"

"Ramon, irrespective of critiquing notes, which I personally rarely do because I believe that is the composers own choice and we all have different proclivities in that regard, there is the matter of technicalities. Would you like this work to be…"

  • Mike; thank you so much for your comment re my Sonatina - that means a lot considering what an accomplished writer you are (looked at your site)  - I wrote it to relax a bit after battling through the wind quintet, and used an easy language based around 1 motif. I can't help sounding a bit English although a 'starting block' inspiration for each movement was based on pieces I was teaching the dedicatee; Haydn/Debussy/CPE Bach. Will listen to your clarinet concerto and partita in depth - they sound great, and to my ear capture that language that sits easily with a tonality but is not burdened by it - love Judith Weir for that!

    cheers

    Rob
