Let it snow

I couldn't find a thread about the upcoming holidays, so I decided to create one. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I wonder, have you written anything Christmassy yet? Although I usually don't share my work, I feel I shouldn't hold back on this one. After all, this is personal.

    • the last real sun was 5th Dec, like with you. I'd prefer snow and frost like in a proper Scandinavian winter -- only problem is they last a bit long for my taste.

    • How did you get the vsl problem resolved.   I've just bought their solo voices and didn't realise you couldn't use them offline without paying an extra 50 quid for special usb ilok thing that's probably very easy to lose…   what were the problems you had

    • I had actually thought about the VSL solo voices when on sale as they're certainly better than their substandard choirs but I'm still reluctant to get anything which doesn't sing free text (with one small exception). VSL seem to offer the option of either cloud or dongle. Some libraries from other vendors can be installed on a local hard drive -- on the other hand if that expires (as mine did) you need to contact iLok to reset the license. It's not an ideal system but probably the eLicenser which both VSL and Steinberg previously used was probably worse.

  •  That sounds like a nice bit of Christmas fun.   I also like the one you shared with David (less Christmassy but perhaps a better piece).   I'd love to hear some of your free counterpoint if you're willing to share - sounds very interesting.

I have just finished a Beatles cover (or full rework, actually - arranged for 7 voices) of their 60 year old song If I Fell.   Not specifically Christmassy but I think of it as my Christmas track, and the very ending does feel quite Chrismassy to me, even if it then gets a little subverted…

    • The Beatles. They were very popular when I was a teenager. I can't remember this song, so I can't tell if your arrangement stayed true to the original. Perhaps that's not what you're aiming for. It sounds a bit eerie and somewhat contemporary. A bit too high though. I would have lowered the score by about a fifth. That soprano sounds annoying.
