Confusion persists…

I’m receiving multiple notifications of login difficulties on the site. I believe these are login attempts by former members who do not yet realize that the previous admin deep-sixed the place, and that they must register with new accounts.

I'm not entirely sure how to address this little snafu.

  • I don’t disagree with you or Dave. That’s more or less what I was soliciting here, advice on how that message should read. You’ve got better decorum and diplomacy than I - shoot.
  • No matter how the message is crafted, some are bound to direct their contempt toward the site, rather than the individual responsible for their erasure.
  • I'd have thought that you're more than capable of drafting a message which reflects your own standpoint, Kris! But if you're really desperate, try this (after perhaps a few words of personal introduction). That's about as neutral as it can get:

The original Composer's Forum site was unfortunately closed down without warning. Although I'm trying to get it back on its feet again, the database and membership details have been lost. This means your old details won't work and you'll need to re-register. Sorry for all that but I do hope to see as many of you on here again as soon as possible.
  • That's fine by me, I'm not concerned about that. No matter what you do, somebody will have an opinion about it. I've learned to just ignore it. Let those who will come, come. For the rest, it's not in my power to do anything about it anyway.

@David: that sounds like a good, neutrally-toned message. I support it.
  • Dave, I’m proficient in only a few concentrated fields, and public and professional discourse is not among them. I’m fine with the bit you wrote, and it’s probably better than a failure to address the matter altogether. We can post it in the interim, and kick it around if we see a need for revision.

I’ll skip the personal introduction though. Outside of managing the site, consider me an equal peer member. You are free to rip my miserable musical offerings from end to end with impunity. If I need praise, I’ll earn it the right way. Through bribery.
  • well, I'm flattered...
Now about bribery -- what exactly did you have in mind?
  • I have to pay Ning, so I'll just have to cope with honest criticism for the time being;)
  • Yes the password thing was a problem. Also just to ask, are replies sorted in descending chronological order throughout?
    • No, I changed it to threaded, oldest on top.
