I come tonight with another piece! This one is shorter, possibly more in-line with being a theme song for a show or game. I wanted to do something like a theme for a secret organization. Possibly secret agents or other mysterious persons. In the end, while it's short, I really like the way it captures the concept I gave for myself. It's a little different than what I normally compose. Throwing in some standard drum kit percussion with the piano and eventual strings. Hope you enjoy the listen and would love some feedback!

If I were to write something representing a society of secret agents, I'd have the tempo a bit faster than you have here, with a stronger rhythm from the percussion, representing the heart-pumping excitement of infiltrating a secret society. What you have here sounds more like soundtrack for a dark cult or haunted caves hiding terrible secrets.

Ooo! Interesting... I like that interpretation too. I'm working on a second version with some more variety and altered instrumentation.

Hi, Layne- there’s a band from the first decade of the 2000’s called Evanescence which came to mind while I listened to this. The principal composer, Amy Lee, combined goth, rock, and pop flavors to create something very special. The drum machine programming that band used is something you might want to check out. If I created The Society I’d be proud of it, but I would have made much more of the drum programming. Assuming the opening piano notes are quarter notes, I would have had a 16th note pulse in the drums with something emphasizing 2 and 4. This would have created propulsion while not interfering with the doomsday vibe of the piano and other instruments. It also would have added to the musical interest. It’s not an easy thing to do. It’s an art unto itself, and you’ll have to find and study the best people in the field in order to develop credible drum programming skills. By the way, Evanescence had great drummers on their records. That band showed me how drum programming can be treated as its own thing, and not necessarily to replace the drummer. Keep going. Yes! I know Evanescence! Saw them in concert a few years ago. Amy Lee is incredible. I am re-doing the drum on my second version. Drums and percussion are most certainly not my strongest suit. But I am absolutely in the mindset of moving upward and onward! Thank you for the advice!
