Hello all! To celebrate the official onset of autumn, I made this little video for one of my songs. It is greatly inspired by the musical pieces of the 1940s, especially jazz instrumentals. It's not perfect, but it was so much fun to do and put together. The piece was made in FL Studio using a couple different VSTs, processed through with Izotope's Vinyl plugin to sound like a vintage record.

I would love some feedback not only on the song, but also the video! I know it isn't the purpose of this forum to discuss that, but I'm an aspiring videographer/cinematographer as well and would love to know how these shots align with the song and the story being told.

I look forward to the discussions! Hope you all enjoy the song!

  • I'm no expert, but I would have toned down the colors and used a steadicam, or a tripod. A shaky cam gives a modern impression. Furthermore, I think you could benefit from watching old stop-motion animations, like the Russian ones. Since there's little movement, stop-motion would be sufficient for this story.
    • Thank you for your feedback! Apologies for the delayed response. I suppose for this particular video project I was aiming more for a feel of classic silent films, though I do admit, with an intentional modern flair. Stop motion is actually something I had considered, as these pumpkin people decorations do actually have wire in the arms. Thank you for watching!
  • I personally found the video perfectly satisfactory and it matched the sweet and often quirky music very nicely. Some of your things on the old forum weren't especially to my taste but I've fallen in love with this one rather!
    • Thank you so much! I am glad that you've enjoyed this one! It was a different kind of project for me, to work within this style of composing, but I found it very rewarding once the project was done. This project as a whole was a welcome challenge...and I hope to make more content like this in the future. Turning it into a series perhaps, about the life of their pumpkin child.
