The Dark Lord Dances

Good afternoon, fellow people of the forum! Today I bring a song I actually made over the past hour and a half. I have titled it "The Dark Lord Dances". In this I really tried to keep things going where normally I incorporate a slower section. While this has that, it doesn't do my typical style of slow down and the song keeps moving forward towards it's conclusion.

This was made in FL Studio using BBSCO Discover and Intimate Strings. So, all sounds are free except for some strings as Intimate Strings is one of their paid-for VSTs. Can't wait to hear your thoughts and hope you enjoy the listen!

  • Sounds like this could be used as a soundtrack for an alien invasion movie as the camera approaches the villain's lair, or background music to a boss arena in an alien invasion game. There isn't really enough going on musically speaking for it to stand on its own as a piece of music, but it would be suitable as a soundtrack to on-screen action or background music to a video game.
    • A lot of what I compose I act as if I am scoring whatever scene is playing or I think matches the scene. So, it feeling fitting to be scoring to a movie or game fits how I personally compose! Thank you for the listen. I really like that alien invasion angle!
  • Hey Layne,

I believe this is your strongest composition you've shared so far, at least from what I've heard. I detect a strong Elfman influence in various ways, particularly in the harmonic language, orchestration choices, and the incorporation of syncopation into the work through chord and instrument changes that create a "boom-chuck" rhythmic feel. I agree with HS Teoh in the sense that, to me, this sounds more like underscore music, as it lacks substantial melodic material or significant melodic development. The form, especially with the "sting out" ending, strikes me as library music that could be used for various purposes.
    • Thank you so much! Elfman was the first person I thought of when playing it back. He's definitely one of my favorites! I very much appreciate the listen and the feedback. Hope you enjoyed the piece!
  • Hi, Layne- just letting you know that I’ve enjoyed all the work you’ve posted on this forum including where you’ve done videography. -Ray
