Hi, HS- I enjoyed this piece… I listened to it four or five times and mostly the Hanna version because of its superior musical expression. She made the d-minor section explosive. You have to know how to create that…. the composer and performer both. And she made something special of the poco rit returning to c#, and there were lots of other expressions of tempi, emphasis, and delicacy which appealed to me. When a good fugist presents something, I take is as a given the score will reveal a high level of musical craftsmanship. You always deliver on that and you did here. My attention always goes to what someone will do with the score, particular with fugues. The Hanna version was filled with exciting idiomatic expressions. Excellent posting here. -Ray

Hi Raymond, thank you for listening! I'm flattered that you think so highly of this fugue... it is one of my earliest "successful" fugues, after the previous one I wrote got panned (probably rightly so) for its many beginner flaws. This one also has many things that I would have done differently today. But be that as it may, I agree that Hanna did an excellent job in the D minor section, she really brought out that climactic augmented entry that I wrote there, and I'm very happy with the result.
