'July Tides':

add vibraphone samples

add additional guitar tracks

add bell accents

yesterday I added some vibes to the opening section, along with some oboe samples from my Roland M-OC1 external module. -sounds good!

'Road Trip':

tweak existing vocal tracks by doubling and adding FX, chorus

add Rhodes samples, for in between vocal lines.

re-do the instrumental break, make it a little jazzier, less rock n roll.

.....and then on to mixing these two tunes, adjusting compression, EQ, panning, etc.

Lunch break is over. Now back to work.

I also want to add that removing 10 measures from the middle of a tune with lots of tracks/clips is something I haven't done before. Sometimes it's necessary when you feel the composition is out of balance. Shorter sections are usually more effective than long drawn-out sections. I'm easily bored, so conciseness is important to me. :)

I love the vibraphone, especially with a wavering soft-mallet sound. It's great for adding a top note to extended chords. It's slow going, but I've completed the Rhodes fills and a short Rhodes intro, with pre-existing accompaniment- drums, bass, and clean elec guitar. I deleted the middle of the instrumental break section by splitting clips at measures 69 and 79 (many tracks of clips!) and then deleting that area of clips, and then sliding the later sections over to measure 69. It's a bit tricky with drumkit tracks. Tomorrow I'll work on the instrumental section and probably base it on a Rhodes patch, plus vibes and elec guitar. It has to be in the same style as the rest of the tune, but also a contrast. I like to create a basic goal when I sit down at the DAW or keyboard. Today it was to track an acceptable Rhodes fill to create a slightly jazzy effect, something a little unexpected.

I find the vibraphone adds a sparkling touch, I think it might be one of my favorites.  I think do lists are a good idea that prompts the composer to meet goals and make vibrant music.
