Do not buy from Impact Computers!

Warning to all computer parts geeks, like me!

Do not ever buy from and here's why.

My wife's laptop had an unfortunate martini incident that left its keyboard screwed. So I ordered a replacement from I specifically looked up the product number (507092-001) on HP's website to insure that I got the one with backlit keys. I found it on impactcomputers and ordered and paid for it. I checked the site and my receipt to be sure and they both said product number 507092-001 with backlit keys. (Product number 507091-001 does not have backlit keys and is cheaper.)

So they sent me the wrong one; they sent the cheaper one (507091-001) without the backlit keys. I told them that I had ordered and paid for 507092-001 with backlit keys and they said they would issue a RMA, meaning that I could pay to ship it back, and they would replace it. I emailed them multiple times saying that they should pay for shipping because it was their mistake. But they never responded.

After a couple of days I called them, and 'Jennifer' said she would issue another request for me, and I said to just let me speak to her boss. Then her boss 'Yuri' told me that it was their 'policy' that the customer would pay the shipping. I explained that this was their mistake, and was starting to feel a lot like fraud, charging for an expensive item and sending a cheaper one. He said that the owner of the company was aware of my request and said that they would NOT pay to ship it back.

So I am now contacting the Better Business Bureau and Visa to try to get my money back.

So buyer beware! Impact Computers can send you the wrong part, not what you ordered, and YOU will have to pay to ship it back!

Please help me pass the word around. Let's not let them get away with this! Huzah!

  • Actually, because of their fraud of so many customers, I'm pursuing this with the Florida State Attorney, Visa, and Yahoo Merchant Services. Impact, recently sent me a form email giving me a prepaid ups label to ship it back, but I told them that I needed their assurance that they would not charge me a restocking fee and would return the full amount! I told them that I did not trust them to do proper business, and would continue pursuing the fraud charges, until I was assured that they would refund me completely.

They have a history of charging the customer a restocking fee in cases like this. Even when it is THEIR fault for sending the wrong part!
  • Yeah - I love newegg too, been using them for many years. They didn't have this part tho, and I took a risk. Stupidly!
  • Another review site showing their fraud:
  • Update! It turns out they do this a lot! Look at all of these reviews:
