Hi

Could you have a listen to my composition developments? Comments would be most welcome on Brother Rain Tin and Sister G on My Page.

  • Hi Matt,

I'll have to have more listens, but what I can say at the moment: it was a good idea to put the "popular" theme at the beginning and to use it like a bracket. Some silences between parts seem to me a bit too long. I'll come back later.

    Cheers,

I got a new version of Brother Rain Tin and Sister G on my profile. Your comments would be most welcome. I think I've taken on board what you said last time. It was interesting how you seemed one step ahead of me!

    All the best

Many thanks. Leave this with me. I've been thinking along similar lines my self. Thanks for the time you've spent on this....

All the very best till next time.

  • Hi Matt,

I had other listens and identified six parts divided by longer pauses:

    0:00 to 0:33 A1

    0:37 to 0:54 A2

    0:56 to 1:22 A3

    1:25 to 1:57 A4

    2:03 to 2:29 A5

    2:33 to 6:53 A6 + B (?)

    Some unsystematic thoughts:

All parts start with that somehow hesitant rhythmic motif - varied and differently instrumented. It gives to me the idea of someone who searches for the right way to express or to do something.

Maybe the strong piano theme/motif of the first part comes to early?

The comparatively popular theme of the last part seems to come a bit unprepared. On the other hand I wished to hear again the piano motif from the first part - identically or played by an (an)other instrument(s) or just the rhythmic pattern.

    Best wishes,

    Rudi

Half the feedback I've had says that the different sections are too different to work together. It's encouraging that you think that the piece could be doubled in length as i think I could justice the sections that way. An area I think I need to work on is development. Brother Rain Tin and Sister G is made up of three ideas that I sketched out. These were then fleshed out and put together. It's been over a year to get to this point. I really appreciate your comments as the development I hear in your pieces is quite inspiring. I would like to give some of your compositions a good listening too to help. I guess I need to expand on some of the themes?

  • Hi Matt,

you could easily double or triple the length. There's enough material to do this. Can you tell me more about the piece?

    Kind regards,

    Rudi

It's work in progress and is in need of development I think. Double the length? Really appreciate your comments and support. Hope your music is progressing....
