Hello fellow ComposerinosI've begun a new blog "on music composition and production, filmmaking, and creativity"Have a look and see what you think - much more content to come! The first post details, with audio examples, the always interesting journey of being a hired gun, balancing compromise and conviction, and trying to please everyone - 1 clip, 3 versions of the score!http://adrianelliscomposer.com/AdriansBlog/Cheers,Adrian

  • Thanks Marius. It's definitely a subjective thing. And yes, it's really hard to get the full impact of the work w/out it's visual component. I hear what you are saying about the melodic focus of v1 - it's the nature of the beast, and you have to enjoy the process and the results in their own right or you will quickly become disillusioned with scoring for media :) It ain't 'serious' music!
  • I agree, Steve, that first one has that feeling, which is why I didn't send it off at first. Hmmm, maybe I'll see if I can license it to a Christmas show! :)

    Thanks for listening!
  • Hi Harpsichordal,

Thanks for checking it out, and for your comments!

I agree, it would have been much more engaging and informative with the visual part attached - it's kind of ironic to be talking about scoring to picture without showing the picture. However, as you pointed out, I don't have the rights to broadcast the clip at the present time - I've not even approached the director about it. We are a week from entering the scoring session and I don't want to risk putting the director off. Perhaps it will be something I can do in the future, at which time I'll revisit the article and update it.

    Cheers,

    Adrian
