In making this I was attempting to show much variety in the music without it sounding like a totally different piece. From a theory perspective I wanted it to go into some slightly unusual…Continue

Timothy Smith replied to Geert ter Horst's discussion Jollity for Piano
"Hi Geert, I am certainly not yet understanding this which is certainly no fault of yours. I intend to re read it again and hopefully digest it so that I  can at the least have a better grasp of your objectives. In the beginning I can only…"

Geert ter Horst replied to Timothy Smith's discussion The Restitution
"Hello Tim, I would never suspect you of disrespect. "Geert" is correct. "Geert ter Horst" is not three names, but two. "Geert" is my first name and "Ter Horst" my family name. Here in Holland we often…"
Timothy Smith replied to Jon Corelis's discussion Bajo la Gótica Ventana
"Thanks Jon for bringing these older traditions back to life again. Gives one a sense of the emotion felt by the lone suitor as he  expresses his feeling at the end of his life."
Timothy Smith replied to Jos Wylin's discussion Pierlala Again... Tribute to a free mind
"Jos, The hard work has payed off here. Excellent work! I love the changes in theme almost at the drop of a hat. You are quite good at both composition and mixing. I would have a tough time staying with a project this long mainly due to time…"
Timothy Smith replied to Ingo Lee's discussion Woodwind Quintet
"Nice piece Ingo. I liked the interplay especially in the 2nd part. This is where I think the music was beginning to come into it's own. Especially interesting was 3:03 to about 3:13. That one passage has a lot of interesting things going…"
Timothy Smith replied to Liz Atems's discussion String Quartet in A Minor
"Hi Elizabeth I listened to the recording and looked at the score you made. You are clearly very knowledgeable in tonality and tonal variation. In reading what your intent was, I believe you have attended to that very well. I found listening to this…"
Timothy Smith replied to William Maxwell's discussion Concerto for Soprano Saxophone and Orchestra
"Hi William,  So I might be misunderstanding here. Someone else played the high sax. Is this a live recording? Thanks for sharing these. I liked how you had the climaxes or build ups come in at around the same times at the 2:20 to 2:50 marks or…"
Timothy Smith replied to Timothy Smith's discussion The Restitution
"Hi Geert,  In your country I am not sure if you address by all three names. If you prefer Geert ter Horst I will be happy to comply and mean no disrespect in using "Geert" as this is the way we usually do this here. Please let me know…"
Jos Wylin replied to Timothy Smith's discussion The Restitution
"Hi Timothy, Thanks for the additional information. I've never seen such an plugin before. The things I regularly use are: MIR Pro (Vienna), The Vienna Suite with Power Pan (for horizontal and vertical position), Virtual Sound Stage (2) and…"
Robert Caley replied to Timothy Smith's discussion The Restitution
"Hi Tim, I liked this one -- for whatever reason, it evoked some of the music I heard in some of the older, European art-house films I was exposed to in film school (way back in the day, maybe 35 years ago - I can't even remember the names of…"
Geert ter Horst replied to Timothy Smith's discussion The Restitution
"Hello Tim, I have listened to this piece several times, with pleasure, and I like it. I especially appreciate its free flowing tonal/modal style, which helps to attain the goal of escaping traditional and outworn harmonic schedules by different…"
Dane Aubrun replied to Timothy Smith's discussion Useless Drivel
"Yes, Gav, 100% applause for organising these things and doing the admin around them. They are fun and bring us all together a little more. SO, many thanks for that."
Timothy Smith replied to Timothy Smith's discussion Useless Drivel
"Gav I forget what fun is. Maybe this will help."
Gav Brown replied to Timothy Smith's discussion Useless Drivel
"No big picture, just some fun!"
Timothy Smith replied to Timothy Smith's discussion Useless Drivel
"Dane I agree there's a lot of entries here.I think it's an easy theme in my opinion. If it's anything like the last contest I entered which wasn't here, I put a lot of time into it and it didn't even place. I thought my…"
Timothy Smith replied to Timothy Smith's discussion The Restitution
"I almost missed this by Liz- "I see that Apple's GarageBand is considered a type of DAW software. I wonder how it compares to more professional products." While some bands have made albums from Garageband I would say it is mostly seen…"
