"Your tutti organ drowns out the strings. I think I could hear the flute, but not very well. Bach certainly would have registered the organ part to mix better with the other instruments. For organists registration is the art of selecting stops on a…"

Some political commentary

Posted on November 30, 2009 at 7:39pm 0 Comments

President Obama makes his case for more troops in Afghanistan tomorrow night. I’ve got bad news for him; nobody will like what he has to say. The Republicans won’t like the fact that he took two months to decide. That’s not being a decider, it’s not decisive to take that two months to do the manly thing. In fact it’s positively French to take two months to do a manly thing. We Americans want our Presidents manly (and definitely not French). The Republicans have the monopoly on all things… Continue

Orchestral Music

It seems in these parts orchestral efforts count for something. So I've posted the first two movements of what I consider my symphony, Yesterday is History and Tomorrow is a Mystery. I've already posted the third (final) movement, Today is a Gift. That's the order in which they should be heard, Yesterday, Tomorrow and then Today, it's all about living in the now. This piece was based on a sentence of psychobabble that I appreciate, "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift,… Continue

Hi Steve, I tried to post the live version of Springtime Alert, but it's too heavy. If you give me your email address I will send a link! I'm glad you like it! /Kjell

Hi Steve

I’m glad you liked my quartets. I listened to some of your pieces. I thought your emotional vignettes are crying out for orchestration – have you tried that? ‘Falling in Love’ is not your best work as it does not feel that it “goes anywhere” (do you know what I mean?). Serious silliness is fun … like Satie!  The e minor fugue intrigued me. The subject itself is great but as it proceeded I wondered where it would go. I was not disappointed as the work from about 1.10 to 1.30 took me to new vistas that I particularly liked as it is just there in most fugues that interest can lag (unless you are Bach or Shostakovitch).

Have you had any music recorded that is not for piano?

I had not seen activity that applied to my kind of music, so I kind of drifted off.

I certainly have an interest in choral music.  I've had a couple of pieces performed recently. Can we put up PDFs of our compositions? It has been a while.....

Thanks for the invite, Steve. I had totally forgotten about this site, or that I had joined it. I'll check it out when I have some time tomorrow..

"I enjoyed the ghostly waltzes. Do you really look like Elvis?"

No, not anymore. Thank you much for the waltzes. I just did choral arrangements of the first two. They are on my YouTube channel. You might enjoy them. I cannot upload them here anymore because Composers is requiring Flash. Thanks much for the invite. I don't get around here much anymore. JJ

Hi Steve!

I've listened to your Fugue. I was quite impressed how you managed to (in a tonal way) express your feelings and intellect. Where have you studied and what has made you a master in judo? See you!

With Friendly Regards

Thank you, Steve for sharing this music with us. I shall return again to hear more of it. But this far I am taken by the "g minor prelude and fugue" and "In such a small place". Wonderful! Once again thank you!
