Gavin Brown commented on phil Kelly's blog post new tune posted
"A well performed piece with high production values. I listened to it 2 times spaced a few days apart and came away with the same impression both times - that while the jamming is enjoyable, there is no melody in the piece which sticks in my head - I…"

"Simon :

I can hear a marked difference ( for the better ) in the second ( East West ) version  -particularly in the strings and overall dynamic response. What did that package set you back ?

BTW: very nice piece as well !"

phil Kelly replied to Doug Lauber's discussion 'Ostinato Trip' ...a progressive rock/ fusion piece
"Doug: Great start!  It's got a nice basic feel to  it.  Elaborating on your comments about contrasts, I'd like to hear you include a spacier section based on some pitch centers somewhat more remote from the A modal ostinato section and using less…"

"Hi Michael:
Logic is really primarily a learning experience for me because when and if I get it happening, it's basically for experimental
use only. Being a COF ( certified old fart ), my basic way of working has always been pencil and score pad (…"

  • For you funk persons on the list:

I just added a couple cuts from my first CD
( Convergence Zone ) showing the
    greasier side of my psyche.

Sort of an antidote to all that moody film score stuff ..

Let me know what y'all think !!
  • Glad you liked Lil Drummer boy...hehe. It was a blast to do except for the fact that I really thought it was PD and I wrote it as a lead in for Good Morning America during Christmas. They only take original material or PD. Phooey!
  • Yeah, you're right; it's 93 degrees outside. But at least it's a wet, sticky heat.
  • Ah!
    Great, you got it.
Can't wait to sample the other side of Phil.
    er...
I mean listen to your newly posted music.
  • Hold down the control key and click. Same thing.
    : )
  • Steve:

Welcome aboard ..besides needing to skew the age curve here a bit, I need help occasionally with my walker :)

Poke around and listen to some of the stuff here. There are kids here with real talent!

( I'm allowed to use the term "kids" ..so are you ) :)
  • I have joined but I feel as if you and I are in a musical Doogie Houser Land. Everyone else is so damned young.
  • Ed:

    Thank y'all!

    It worked!!

If you check out my playlist.
You can now hear a bit of my "non jazz" film stuff and orchestral bits.
( and yes, for the most part, all live real players! )

I'd love to hear comments upon the other side of my musical "split personality" :)
  • iTunes:
    go into preferences.
    click advanced tab.
    change import settings to MP3.
    exit to play list.
right click over the song in the playlist and choose convert to MP3.
It will create a duplicate in the list, only an MP3 version.
Drag to your desktop and distribute.
To keep things clean, you may want to delete the Mp3 version from your iTunes playlist.
    Hope this helps!
    : )

    You're work is stellar!
  • I've been trying to post a couple film /orchestral cues as well, but being the tech klutz I am, I've FORGOTTEN hown to turn AIFF files off a CD into postable mp3s!

I've dont it before ..but I've forgotten how ..I screwed around with both iTunes and Toast yesterday and counl't get it happening ..rats!

Thought I'd give all you young tech mavens a little laff at my expense!! :)
