Thomas Van Beeck replied to Thomas Van Beeck's discussion My new tracks 2012
"Hi Philip, thank you.
I tried to show off some variation in my pieces, since everyone has different taste (clients). It's nice to hear you talk about the small vs large thing, because I discussed that with a friend.
He said it was good to have some…"

Philip Ricciardi replied to Thomas Van Beeck's discussion My new tracks 2012
"Thomas, I listened to your track and I liked them. What I found most interesting was how you contrast the sound of small vs large ensemble sounds in the same piece. It provides not only a variety of dynamics, but also a change in "intimacy" as you…"

Thomas Van Beeck replied to Thomas Van Beeck's discussion more than 16 general midi channels, how to?
"I don't have a problem with loading all my stuff, I currently run a template with more than 130 midi tracks. It's mainly that I wish to write my stuff in guitar pro (I'm really fast with it) and I don't have a problem with the general midi sounds,…"

Anthony Berlin replied to Thomas Van Beeck's discussion more than 16 general midi channels, how to?
"Then I can't help you. The NI version has a DFI (Direct From Disc) feature, made by NI, and you can set it to load much of the instruments from the harddrive, which means less ram memory is used. It works pretty well and you can get around 14-15…"

Anthony Berlin replied to Thomas Van Beeck's discussion more than 16 general midi channels, how to?
"Do you maybe by any chance use the NI versions of EWQL for your orchestra? Then, if you use 7200 rpm harddrives, or ssd harddrives, I have a great solution for you. But I won't bother writing it all down here if you don't have it :) It won't work…"

Thomas Van Beeck replied to Thomas Van Beeck's discussion more than 16 general midi channels, how to?
"I currently only have GP4 installed, but have GP5 & 6 on my other machine. If I try this in GP4, the linking works but the linked channels share the same instrument.
Is that what you mean? Or do you mean that linking them shares panning and volume…"

Thomas Van Beeck replied to Thomas Van Beeck's discussion New song, but what about the mix?
"Hey thanks alot Matt.
Yeah, it's possible that it is slightly distorted, that's the maximizer probably.
I made an updated version.
I mostly did some highpassing on some of the drums, played with the eq-ing and panned them a bit more to the center.…"

Matt Walsh replied to Thomas Van Beeck's discussion New song, but what about the mix?
"To my ear the section at roughly 0:50- 1:25 was slightly distorted but not even nearly TOO distorted...maybe ease off of the reverb in the chorus and the horns a tad in that section? I think its mostly the chorus line, but at the same time that…"

  • Hi Thomas, thanks for the kind words. I would say that the bulk of my woodwinds are from VSL but many of the effects (rip, grace notes, etc) are from Symphobia (and now also Hollywoodwinds).
