Hello, Composer Forum!
My name is Steven Moore, I'm an aspiring composer looking to get in to the games industry via music. I'm hoping that soon (before the end of the year) I will have a website up and I can start doing commissions as well as sending out my portfolio to possible employers.
I'm currently 18 years old, I've been studying music properly since aged 11 however, it wasn't until about a year and a half ago I really developed a love for composing. Like all kids, my first aspiration when playing music was to be a rock star.
I have played piano for 6 years and guitar for 4 as well as participating in both Djembe drumming and Conga drumming groups. I'm looking to start playing the violin soon too!
In terms of my portfolio, I try to compose across a broad range of styles and genres. I really enjoy composing classical music however, in terms of a favourite "genre", I just don't have one. From tribal music to latin american, classical to metal, I believe that listening to as big of a range as possible is key to understanding the genre, the instruments and developing your own personal ability to compose in that genre. At this point, I'd like to add that I don't listen to mainstream pop on the basis that it cannot teach me anything. It's so simple to compose for, really, anyone could do it.
This has gone on long enough! If there is a section on the forum to introduce yourself, I will certainly post more there, if not, feel free to contact me to find out more about my portfolio, composing style, musical tastes/experiences etc!
Thanks for reading!
