I have always had a passion for songs and music that invoke strong emotions and paint a unique audible landscape. The idea that in our western culture so many different musical ideas come from just a twelve note chromatic scale, often of which only seven notes are used, has always fascinated me and is the foundation of my musical creativity. All of my compositions are written in midi, using Cubase 5 as my platform and Halion and Halion Symphonic as my soundfonts. I would love critiques on any of the pieces as I'm an aspiring composer who has a limited, but developing knowledge of how to write fully developed compositions.

Thanks for adding me Ryan- and thanks for listening!
Hi Ryan
I've listened through your playlist and found a lot of interesting music. Overture in Orvieto is my favorite. I'm an old Cubase dude myself. I started with Pro24 which later became the first Cubase version. Now I'm using Garageband, on my way to Logic. But Garageband is still better than my old, old, old version of Cubase.
Keep up the good work!
"Hey,
I enjoyed your musical compositions. Silverlake reminds me of Vangelis. When you compose, do you have preconceived notions as towhat you will write or is it an experiment with sound until you come
across something that peaks your interest to develop further." Thanks!
Nice work here on your profile page!
I also use Cubase 5 :) I have HSO but do not use it anymore since I've moved to the 64bit version of Cubase which isn't compatible with HSO :(
From what I've heard, VSL is a great library!
Cool, I currently reside in St Louis

"A Distant Shore" is relaxing, nice. I felt it ended too soon.
"A Mother's Hope" is perhaps a little too minimalist for me to say much about. It sounds pretty, and that seems to be its goal.
Nice work. - sylvester
None of it will mean anything, in the fullness of time. I like "art music" for this reason: I spend a lot of time planning my work; calculating proportions; justifying my musical actions. After all this thought, I hope that I have created "art" through my "skill." I hope that it means writing music that demonstrates skill.
Process: usually I do not have a preconceived melody in mind. If I do, it is the result of a skectch, made on some old score paper. I consider my emotions, but can override them. Most of my music today is made for a particular reason - usually to accompany a YouTube quality film.
The films came first. I was a composer many years ago. I underlaid films with famous composers, which I played on piano. Then, I began to use my own music. This is where I stand. Sometimes the music comes first, and it sits about doing nothing. But lately, I compose for a reason. This gives more push, a better argument to it: I think.
Listening to music, reading biographies of musicians, practicing theory (Jazz or classical), improvising - these are all ways to get something going.
Do you have any special way of coming to inspiration? I'm eager to learn what others do before they write. ...s
