"Dear Pascal,

I've listened to most of the music and videos you have on your website.  I was really inspired by your work.  Your ability to match the different sounds to the various events in video is remarkable.  Really beautiful.  Keep up the…"

"Thanks Tombo!  I know what you mean about the chikka chikka sound.  It seemed to tighten  up the beat, esp. at the end of phrases.  I'll check out the snare too.  It's Superior Drummer Metal snare, probably a metal one.    I was going for a driving,…"

"Ha!

You hit the genre on the head.  Ouch says the genre.

I would add a screaming guitar lead over top, bring the drums down in the mix, and do something about that snare sound though, it sounds more like a wood block than a snare.  Plus that…"

Paul Howard Davis replied to Mikolaj Holowko's discussion Bass - y it never sounds great?!
"If this is what you want to do, and have a day job then tell them what they want to hear, that you want to be the best "web dev" or whatever.  Share you dreams with friends and family.  Second thought, be careful about that too.  Family can be most…"

Paul Howard Davis replied to Mikolaj Holowko's discussion Bass - y it never sounds great?!
"Maybe it's the patch you don't like.  The bass sounds a little mid rangy to me.  Also, try sidechain compression AKA ducking.  Use the kick as a trigger and send it to a compressor on the bass.  Fine tune the attack and decay of the compressor while…"

"I use both speakers ROKIT5's and headphones K240's when I'm not alone.  Definetly prefer speakers, no sweaty ears.  But sometimes I need to hear detail, so I put on the ear warmers for that."

"Good songs, thought altough the production sound clear, it's a bit lifeless, but that might be due to the samples.
I like 'Wondering' a lot :)"

"Beethoven and Heifetz were both amazing musicians, but I have no desire to compete with their accomplishments or try to sound like anyone else.  My hope is that people will be touched in some way when they listen to my music. My musical interests…"

"Thanks Sandy.  I sort of live in 2 worlds. On the violin I read music and play works of other composers, but I prefer composing by ear for some reason.  Thanks for listening.  I enjoyed your piece too.  That's fantastic that you've composed for a…"

Paul Howard Davis commented on Keith Holden's video
"Very original.  I have been researching some kind of midi setup for my violin to play my eastwest libraries with, and nothing works very well.  I've been told the output from a violin is too varied, etc.  So, now that I've seen your method with bass…"

  • Hi Paul, thank you very much for your kind comment. I'm busy right now but I plan to visit your website soon. Sorry if my message is short but my english is short too !

    Yours sincerely.

  • Paul,  Hi. I love to play a few different styles, compose for bands, solo violin, and now hopefully film if I can overcome some educational hurdles.  Trying to figure out how to get from sibelius to finished product in Protools.  Never give up, that's what I tell myself.

  • I like your music.  Fellow violinist, Sandy
  • Hi Paul. Thanks for the add and your kind comments. I've had a listen to your compositions and I'm sure many will agree that they could easily be expanded into music that would be quite at home as an integral part of Films and TV dramas. I look forward to hearing more. Cheers
