Thanks for the comments on Water Potion. More counter point would be interesting. The piece has been flexably scored so it only really has three parts (for any instrument) + percussion, but this would certainly be something I will consider to…"

"Thank you for the comments. i think the long note is a midi glitch. It sound out of place to me. I've had a listen to some of the music on your page. It seems full of character, a real mix thats crafted extremely well.
All the best

"Hi Matt.  I did enjoy listening to your Loook for Silence.  It was very good and a well developed piece, but my only beef with it was that the one very, long note seemed a little bit too long.  (It might be a small quirk of mine)
I posted my latest…"

"Hi Matt,
I'll have to have more listens, but what I can say at the moment: it was a good idea to put the "popular" theme at the beginning and to use it like a bracket. Some silences between parts seem to me a bit too long. I'll come back later.…"

I got a new version of Brother Rain Tin and Sister G on my profile. Your comments would be most welcome. I think I've taken on board what you said last time. It was interesting how you seemed one step ahead of me!

Thank you for your comments. i understand, it's my own voice but is similar to other composers. I've had to think about this and you mentioning it has been useful. I guess a truly original sound is hard to find, one that maybe should be be…"

"Hi Matt,
I had other listens and identified six parts divided by longer pauses:
0:00 to 0:33 A1
0:37 to 0:54 A2
0:56 to 1:22 A3
1:25 to 1:57 A4
2:03 to 2:29 A5
2:33 to 6:53 A6 + B (?)
Some unsystematic thoughts:
All parts start with that somehow…"

Thanks for the positive comments and grappled with a decision to work progressively. I'm playing with adding more randomness to my compositions. I really do feel that likening my music to "Le Sacre du Printemps" was not justified. I hear…"

Half the feedback I've had says that the different sections are too different to work together. It's encouraging that you think that the piece could be doubled in length as i think I could justice the sections that way. An area I think I need…"

  • My ears are enjoying your ten dozens :)
  • Hello Matt,

Glad to be your friend. I enjoy your instrument combination and atonal style, especially what I found in "Innate Affection". It is interesting to which extent this is an improvisation, and how you combine a written score with improvisations. As a pure pianist, I always envy those who can improvise on other instruments. Your music is deep and innovative.

  • Hi Matt, thanks for the invite which I have gratefully accepted.  I've had a listen to a couple of your tracks, and I was very impressed with the direction you've followed, and the fact that you have managed to form some sort of accessibility.

I would be interested to know why you requested my friendship, as I am a bit of a traditionalist.  I have a sort of eclectic style with many 20th century influences, but also many Baroque influences, and it is with this language that I have created a symphony of the Classical Viennese tradition.  I know it sounds weird (not the music) but the music is really a part of me and I'm quite proud of it.

  • Greetings Matt.  I am enjoying your style :)  Five Rings, What Do You Forget, and My Ears Are Going... are captivatingly minimalist while expertly executed in a complex fashion.  Cheers!
  • Aloha Matt, Thanks for the friend request. I like your work. My music is what ever is running around in my head. I write by ear and can't read a note of sheet music. With that said take a listen and tell me what you think. I have written over 100 tracks in the last 10 years using MIDI and have recently returned to my guitar for writing. I have always been a vocalist and have recorded 27 albums for Capital records thru the 70s with "The Lettermen"

    Keep making music

  • Hi Matt,
Thank you very much for your feedback, it is much appreciated. I went to watch Tan Dun’s video and you are right, there is something there. Thank you for the link.

I listened to ‘My Ears Are Going TenTo The Dozen’ and it was a fascinating experience. It felt like a story taking place and my mind’s eye was continually waiting for the next picture. It created a peaceful and still, contemporary environment. Every time the music was introduced the scene changed. I enjoyed the journey and it was a nice welcome to hear something completely new and different. Thank you very much for sharing this with us.

    Best wishes,
    Marie-Anne

Its a small world. How can I contact you? I tried emailing Derby Uni.
I haven't heard from them though! Just a couple of things I wanted to chat about!
