I am a composer with a broad range of musical experience and interests. My catalog of compositions represents a life-long journey of exploring many kinds of music from around the world, across cultures and through history. The variety of entries in my catalog represent many diverse ways I have found to hear music, to listen to music and to express ideas through it. To varying degrees, many of my compositions are like stories and essays from this journey. The compass that I have carried with me on this journey is best expressed in composer Luciano Berio’s published lectures Remembering the Future: "... music is everything we listen to with the intention of listening to music, and that anything can become music.” Growing up with a strong interest and affinity toward music, I began gigging as a clarinetist and saxophonist at age 16 under the guidance and support of elder musicians and music teachers around my hometown of Springfield, Massachusetts. This provided me a means to acquiring strong foundational skills in sight reading, ensemble playing, improvising and exposure to a range of music, from popular to jazz and Western classical. I am a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music (MM '86) where my principal teachers were Arthur Berger, Pozzi Escot and Malcolm Peyton. As an undergraduate I majored in music composition as a student of Philip Bezanson and Robert Stern at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (BM '76). I have compositions published with Frank E Warren Music Service and more compositions distributed through J. W. Pepper Music.
