Lennart Östman replied to Lennart Östman's discussion The Sermon (string quartet and orchestra)
"Thank you very much Michael! I’m very happy you liked the piece. Yes, contrast is important and it’s there, like everything else, to support the melody. I was a bit hesitant if I could balance a string quartet and a full orchestra but I think it…"

Lennart Östman replied to Lennart Östman's discussion The Sermon (string quartet and orchestra)
"Thanks Kjell! There might be more big tuttis on the horizon. What I want to write now is a bigger suite for orchestra. If that is what will come is another thing."

Kjell Prytz replied to Lennart Östman's discussion The Sermon (string quartet and orchestra)
"Hello Lennart,
I like the piece a lot. It is easy to follow its development and it has an appealing orchestration. For me, the first half is more appealing due to its many contrasting and surprising events. The second part ends with a truly…"

Lennart Östman replied to Kjell Prytz's discussion Lively counterpoint
"Very beautiful and you managed to keep the interest of the listener throughout the piece. It never felt boring or repetitious. I like how you several times let the first violins fill in the last leg of the previous theme as a launching pad for its…"

Lennart Östman replied to OscoBosco's discussion So happy! Recently got a mastered audio track of my string quartet!
"I really enjoyed this. I’m not going to analyse it that much. Sometimes it’s just enough to enjoy the music. Are you going to publish the other movements too? I’m looking forward to hearing them if you do."

Lennart Östman replied to Lennart Östman's discussion First Light - for string quartet and English horn
"It is also to some extent my personal style to treat every part as equally important. That can be found in all of my music."

Lennart Östman replied to Lennart Östman's discussion First Light - for string quartet and English horn
"Thanks Jan-Fredrik and Colin! This is the first piece I’ve written for English horn so I guess I did hold back a little and made all the instruments equal players."

Colin Dougall replied to Lennart Östman's discussion First Light - for string quartet and English horn
"Hi Lennart
It is a pleasant enough piece as it stands, but I think the horn is hiding too much in the background. To my mind it should have a stronger melodic presence than it currently has and should "boss" the strings a bit more.
Thanks, Colin."

Jan-Frederik Carl replied to Lennart Östman's discussion First Light - for string quartet and English horn
"Hello Lennart,
it cloaks itself in a nice, may I say, "baroque", atmosphere. The tension is never lost. Seeing the score would definitely be interesting.
Kind regards,
Jan"

Timothy Smith replied to Lennart Östman's discussion Too much EQ?
"Not familiar with that program. Interesting to hear how your worked through this and still came through with an excellent outcome. It's easy to double think ourselves in terms of the mix, at least for me, this is something I constantly do."

Lennart Östman replied to Lennart Östman's discussion Too much EQ?
"Good to hear. I’m asking because I hade done what the guys at Wallander Instruments warn you not to do. I had upgraded to a new version of NotePerformer in the middle of a project! My thought was to just redo the recordings of all movements in…"

Timothy Smith replied to Lennart Östman's discussion Too much EQ?
"I think both track and mastering are excellent! This must represent a lot of work.
I tend to favor a sharper mix ie a little air in the 5khz range. I always figure the listener can roll it off with their tone control if it isn't desirable to them."

  • Thanks for the add. I like the feeling in your melodies!
  • Hi Lennart (which actually my second name). I´m glad you liked "Tap", Nowadays I´m going towards a more orchestral/ambient style of music. "The mirror" is the closest of my composition as of now.

    See you!

  • Hi, Lennart.  'Glad you like Twinkle, Twinkle.  It's been used in a couple of independent films and some web sites.  You may also like Dare We Dream.  It's several variations of Brahms' Lullaby with some other night time themes thrown in.

I hope you can post some more of your music soon, as well.  This one sounds very nice.
