  • I like what I hear. I'm still a fan of melody and harmony, in time with some formal construction.Do I hear some Celtic influence in your writing or have I just been married too long to a woman with Scottish heritage on both sides of her family?

  • Hi, John. Nice to meet you. I am also a Canuck, I was born on Vancovuer Island in BC. I've been living in California for about 9 years.
  • The Scott Smalley orchestration class was wonderful. I took it 2 years ago and it was like drinking from a fire hydrant! What I found particularly useful was that all of his pointers, hints, tricks, etc. could just as easily be applied to orchestral library as to live orchestra. When I got home, I was in the middle of an orchestration job for a Christmas album, applied his techniques to my VSL library and was amazed at how well they worked! The episodic work was quite a while ago. I was part of the sound dept on both Miami Vice and 21 Jump Street. If you go to my website www.johndoryk.com , you can see a full listing of my credits.

  • Thanks Susan! I'm delighted to find this new forum. Seems like a lot of really talented, cool, nice people.
  • Hey, John - great tunes!
  • My parents came from Leoville Sask.
  • Too cool!!! I'll have to post some climbing pics. I know they're off topic, but they're cool.
  • Wow... I was born in Saskatoon, lived in Vancouver, and now in Toronto. My Dad is an avid rock/ice climber, and I did some climbing with him in Austria... wild!
  • Yeah, we've been here for just over 13 years, and I love it! I happen to be an avid technical rock/ice climber, so this is definately one of the prime places in the US for that sort of stuff. I see that you live in Newfoundland now. I was born in Toronto and have family in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and BC. Newfoundland's a very pretty place. How did you land up there?
  • These sample libraries are getting more and more spectacular-sounding. I'm afraid they're double-edged swords. Ignore that they are available and suffer the consequences because rest assured, the next guy with the latest library, "Super Vienna Super Tight Platinum Orchestra: every player tested sober for these recordings* " box set is more-than-willing to step right up.

Pity. It takes a bit of glamour out of the process, doesn't it?
