"Hi Dave these sound like Irish uilleann pipes.  Which can over blow and are one of the hardest and flexible pipes.  World wide there are around 40 different sorts.  One of my favourites is one of the Italian bagpipes.…"

Jim Tribble replied to Lawrence Aurich's discussion Minuet (Suite of Antique Dances 4th movement)
"Good point.  I have just been telling another composer about my own lack of enjoyment about adding dynamics and tempo's etc to pieces as I used to subscribe to the Baroque and earlier way of thinking that the musicians should be good enough to…"

Jim Tribble replied to Timo Schuemer's discussion Fantasia in D Major
"Thanks for the information I will check out EWQL Hollywood Orch.  Sounds great.  At the moment I use the new Dorico programme plus their in house midi.  My poor computer is sadly not up to the job of running full orchestra and stops and starts.  It…"

Jim Tribble replied to Lawrence Aurich's discussion Minuet (Suite of Antique Dances 4th movement)
"Hi, nice piece.  Good gentle lilt.  For me it could do with a bit more dynamic contrast?  And maybe working on the shaping of phrases using dynamics etc.  You might consider some tempo change such as a rit... at the end or a rit... and "a tempo"…"

Jim Tribble replied to Bob Morabito's discussion "OH NO..it sounded GREAT yesterday..What happened???"
"Surely that is part of the process, to figure out and experiment, to see how things sound altered.  That is the fun (for me) of composing.  I keep changing things until they do not annoy me any more.  I still revisit pieces that I have written over…"

I will try again.
Thanks again…"

Derek lives in Edinburgh, and I see him a few times a year in orchestra concerts, I play…"
