"Hey Chris and everyone. I'd love to see this forum get more active. I think there are a few 'personalities' here who have a tendency to be very dominant in discussions (effectively overriding or dismissing other opinions as wrong). Not talking about…"

"Thank you Rodney, it's always great to get intelligent feedback and I definitely make mistakes from time to time. The other way to analyse it (as Chris said) is to think of it as a half-diminished chord in third inversion.
Incidentally I used this…"

"Yeah apologies Rodney, you're correct that the chords go from D to Gm(6) however this is the same idea in a different key.
I guess you could look at it as a borrowed minor iv chord however whichever way you use it I think the importance is in the…"

Rodney Carlyle Money commented on James Semple's blog post John Williams in Love
"We might be talking about different pieces, but are we talking about when the horn comes in? If so I thought the piece was in D major, so where is the opening harmony of G to Cm6? It's D to gm/D or we actually call it a I to iv6/4, and the iv is…"

"Hey Michael this is a great piece of writing and you've done a great job here.
Personally I like CS. It has a couple of issues but overall it's one of the best libraries for sound straight out of the box."

  • Hi James:

Very nice stuff! I especially liked "Battle" Sounds a bit like Carl Orff wrestling the Firebird and winning in two falls! :)

Looking forward to cyberhanging with you!
  • I've wondered for years what my lineage was. Do you know any of yours? You bear an uncanny resemblance to my brother and his son. I'm 6'4" and not comfortable unless I can see my breath--did we both originate in the Northern regions of England or Europe?
Very good writing, with Djames really catching my ear.

  • Heavy? Heavy is good! I love heavy. Your heavy tracks sound great. Welcome aboard, James!
  • Sweet! Have you seen Woody Allen's film, 'Sweet and Lowdown'?

    Game music, eh?
You need to speak to Chris Rickwood.
He's in the thick of it. He's a member here, if you haven't already met him.
  • Thanks for the invite, James!
I had a chance to hear some of your stuff, and you are on your way! I especially like your acoustic work. Djames meets Django, am I right?
    Tell me I'm right, right?
    Very nice.
  • Thanks again for the friendly welcomes people.

Incidentally, Vai Alex is in Italian. I wrote it for the Italian race car driver Alex Canali (http://www.alexcanali.com/).
  • Hi James, Looking forward to hear what you did with the Duduk.

  • Thanks for the comments everyone! This studio has taken a fair while to plan and build (and still isn't completely finished) so I'm just incredibly happy to be in there.

The Django pastiche was for the Music for the Media course (http://www.musicforthemedia.com/). I have to say that all of the guitars are first takes! That rarely happens for me but I liked the loose feel on this and just kept my first shots, warts and all.

  • I like your heavy stuff!

Djames is really nice. It reminds me of music you might have heard in the 1930's in America.

    Great sounds!

Cool...a new studio. I guess you're like a kid at Christmas.
  • Hey James - Welcome on board! I particularly enjoyed your gypsy jazz track. I suppose the D is referring to Jean "Django" Reinhardt? :-)
