I confess to being a contrarian and an iconoclast, which is reflected in this latest fugue of mine, in ways that should be readily apparent to the listener. Or so I hope. :-D I have a lot to say about this offering totally not in the spirit of Octob
Disclaimer: This is not my work nor am I associated with it in any way. I stumbled across it while browsing fugues online, and it's just too cool not to repost here:
I've always wanted to write a rock fugue, or any fugue that isn't in baroque/classic
I'm working on a piece where 99% of the 8th notes are staccato. What's the best way to notate this? I thought of writing sempre staccato but not all notes are staccato, only 8th notes (and not all of them, though the overwhelming majority are). Longe
Today is Pi Day, so I thought I could post this old piece of mine from back in 2015. I'd posted it in the old forum, but since that's gone I thought I'd take the liberty to post it again here.
There have been many clever rhymes and other mnemonics for
I know there probably isn't any standard, but just wondering what are the usual paper sizes employed for a conductor's score with 16-18 staves? Something that's comfortable to read and not too spaced out that it's difficult to pick out the lines at
I didn't think this topic would become an issue in my composing -- after all, what could be more basic than notating accidentals? -- but recently, while working with a couple of pianists to record my pieces, it came to my attention that my notation i
I've posted this fugue in the old forum a long time ago. However, this time round I have a live recording played by Hanna Horokhova, so I thought to share it with y'all. Besides, I find myself often referring to this fugue in various discussions, so

I don't mean to flood the forum with my own work, but Kris specifically asked for the score to this one, so here it is. Plus midi playback, for your listening convenience, though it is already available under the Music section. Hope you enjoy listen
Ear rating warning: this piece is highly dissonant, and may cause your ears to bleed and your sensibilities to be wounded. Listen at your own peril! (Though fortunately, the ordeal only lasts for about 1 minute 32 seconds, so a visit to the hospital
Here's another recent work of mine, a lighthearted contrast to the brooding fugue in E minor, this one is full of relentless energy and fun. Perhaps a little too relentless, I've been told. Pacing is one area I need to work on, in future works. :-D
I've posted this on the previous version of this forum before, but since all past content appears to have vanished into the ether, I thought I'd repost this to get things started again. Hope that's OK.
