Gavin Brown replied to Damon R. Mathews's discussion Not Sure I Fit In.......
"Hi Damon,
First of all, anyone who is a composer is welcome on this site, it is literally the only requirement to be a member. Your compositional style (classical, jazz, pop, lo-fi, something else) and formal education/lack thereof don't matter.
I…"

"Hi Gav,
Such a surprise!  Totally different from what I was expecting.
It is a proof to your competence as a scholarly composer (who chooses to write
much lighter  works otherwise).  I do not think there are any weak points in it.
The problem is…"

"I loved this, it's very beautiful. I especially liked the piano accompaniment. Also, the tempo changes and rythmic contrasts. The piece has a transparent lightness and elegance to it. Very refreshing and full of delights. Very suited to the lyrics.…"

" Hi Ted,
Your piece is pleasant and reminiscent of childhood as you intended. Nicely done!
The way you got the file to us is perfectly fine and you can do it again this in the future if you like. You can also post here and sorry you had difficulty…"

Gavin Brown replied to James Hutchings's discussion Short bit of computer-generated music.
"Hi James,
It is preferred when posting a music file to use an MP3, as it is the closest thing to a universal file format. Not everyone can play a MID file. I was not able to play it.

  • Thank you Gav...very kind of you.  Thank you also for sending me a friend request...hope we can talk a little music in the future.

  • Greetings,

Thanks so much for facilitating the romantic music competition.  Could I get the email to submit my piece.  Again thanks for your time and effort.

Dont know who else to ask but you have responded to me previously.
I havent benn on CF for about a month
    My Page is
    https://composersforum.ning.com/profile/JamesGall
I previously posted all 3 movements of my Piano Concerto on my page (at the top) and today I noticed that they are no longer there but further down the page on the initial post I put up when I added them.
I cannot play these entries now and I have also received this info from someone I directed to CF and my page to hear this work.
Do your music composition entries only stay on CF for so long and are then removed?
If so I didn't know that.
    Any advice here Gav?

  • Thanks for your comment, Gav! Yes, I would agree with you that my composition teacher did me a favor in pushing me outside of my comfort zone. It's quite freeing to work outside of one's own sacrosanct conventions and still create music that somehow speaks in one's own voice.

I listened to Sunshiny Day. I like what I hear and would like to hear more!

  • Thanks for the comments Gavin! I'd like to hear more of your music, so it would be nice if you could upload some more, maybe some of your bigger pieces.

  • Jazz and Progressive? Very cool. Please post some music here. Welcome!
