Gavin Brown replied to Brandon Schwab's discussion Dear Wadjet - for Saxophone Ensemble and Percussion, by Brandon Schwab.
" Hi Brandon,
The colorful and varied orchestration I thought to be the strength of this piece - there are some nice louder vs. quieter sections, high energy sections (mostly with a chromatically descending chord pattern) into low energy/quieter…"

"An interesting and enjoyable short piece.   Parts of it seem to have an Asian flavor, so maybe it would work for an Asian-settin spy film."

"Thanks Sam! It is the length it is because I timed it to fit an opening animation of the same duration. I did write some incidental music, but in looking back at that, I don't think it stands on its own. Appreciate the comment!

"Loved it, Gavin. Yes, I can somehow see an agent moving around, doing his spying action thing with this music. It's too short, though. I want more! hahaha. "

This is a work for a small chamber ensemble, piano, 2 flutes, 2 violins. It was originally written some years ago for a short film of the same name which is, alas, lost to history. This falls in a category I enjoy writing for, what I call "Spy…

  • Hi Gav, how nice of you to respond. What kind of contest is going on? Is it on internet or live somewhere? Like to hear about you. Carine de Winter

  • Thank you, Gav! I'm glad you found Aves Orientalis a pleasant listen.

  • thanks, Gav

I know we have the same aims of writing tonally but being original...I hink it can be done.

Ps. Did you hear my trombone piece at the end of the "new song" thread?

  • Well thank you Gav!  Glad someone likes this stuff.  Sure, I can post the music.  I have to find it first...somewhere around the house in a folder...hmmm.

  • BTW-I listened to you tracks...very interesting indeed...later.

  • Thank you Gav...very kind of you.  Thank you also for sending me a friend request...hope we can talk a little music in the future.

  • Greetings,

Thanks so much for facilitating the romantic music competition.  Could I get the email to submit my piece.  Again thanks for your time and effort.

    God's Peace,

    Father Jason Emerson+

I havent benn on CF for about a month

I previously posted all 3 movements of my Piano Concerto on my page (at the top) and today I noticed that they are no longer there but further down the page on the initial post I put up when I added them.
I cannot play these entries now and I have also received this info from someone I directed to CF and my page to hear this work.
Do your music composition entries only stay on CF for so long and are then removed?
If so I didn't know that.
    Any advice here Gav?

  • Thanks for your comment, Gav! Yes, I would agree with you that my composition teacher did me a favor in pushing me outside of my comfort zone. It's quite freeing to work outside of one's own sacrosanct conventions and still create music that somehow speaks in one's own voice.

I listened to Sunshiny Day. I like what I hear and would like to hear more!

  • Thanks for the comments Gavin! I'd like to hear more of your music, so it would be nice if you could upload some more, maybe some of your bigger pieces.
