"Thanks Adrian!
The Disco specs are pretty serious. They are VERY particular about everything. In fact, 85% of the shows that are delivered to them fail QC. It's insane."

Check out the new issue of Mix Magazine for an article about my work on it.
I haven't heard from Ryan in years, do you know how to get hold of him?"

  • Hey, Frank - thanks for the invite! Welcome to the forum!
  • Hey Chris! No I didn't, just assisted a little here and there. Harry Evans was the recording engineer and mixer for both Urthgirl and Urthmen. He is an extremely talented engineer/producer/musician that is now in the post field too. He is on staff at Clean Cuts in Washington, D.C.
  • Hey Frank! Welcome to the Forum! Did you mix the songs for Urthgirl?
  • Adrian - I "re-mixed" the series for the U.S. HD and SD versions. 5.1 mixes for Discovery HD Theater and stereo for Discovery Channel. I also did sound design and stereo mixes for the "Capturing The Moment" behind the scenes shorts. The music for the series was incredible...he deserves the award.

There is an online version of the Mix article, here's a link:

  • Thanks guys! I'm glad to be here...

I hear what you're saying about those sessions...I've had to pull off some "miracles" in the past.
  • Hi Frank:

Over the years, some of my best friends have been the mixers ..they've saved my butt innumerable times ..and are usually amazing with what they can do with the odd "sows ear" :)
  • Hi Frank! Thanks for the request!

The sound on Planet Earth is unquestionably some of the most impressive on TV for a long while - very nice work! I'll have to check out that Mix article forthwith! I don't suppose there is an online version? What parts of the post-sound did you work on?

Fenton's music for that show was stunning; I hear he just received some award for it. That whole show was just a treat.

    Cheers!

    Adrian
  • frank,

of all the people i work with, even including the musicians, i have to say the engineer is the guy/gal that makes it all work in the end.

we musicians play the instruments, you play the band.

btw, along those same lines, i've actually played on some sessions where "engineering the impossible" applied. lol
  • Yeah...the dancing bird is my daughter's favorite; along with the ape that stuffs it's mouth with figs.

    Good stuff.
  • Nah. I lost touch years ago, as well. I think the last time I saw him, he came to Knoxville four years ago.
My little girl, Grace, is fascinated by Planet Earth. She knows all the animals.. even the obscure ones.
We were looking at an animal book the other day and I pointed at a rodent, and she said, "chinchilla".
    What?!
I looked at the sub-caption, and she was right!
Damn, I though it was a rat or a hamster. Nope. A chinchilla.
She knows hamster and rat are on another page.
2 and 1/2 years old. Crazy. I can't wait to show her that crazy bird that dances in the jungle. I've been holding out for an HD file before we watch them all.
