I was a professional composer/arranger in the 80s and 90s, and also used to do lot of music technology projects. (Among others, I worked with the original development team of Finale in the 80s, and managed the very first large-scale commercial Finale publishing project using a pre-release beta version of the program.) Later on I lived in northeast Africa and got caught in a war there. This led to a major career side-slip -- wanting to develop skills for international relief work, I applied to medical school. Now, 13 years later, I'm finished with the long years (and hours!) of residency training and am a practicing ER doc. I still do work in Africa, but now that I have more space in my life I'm getting back into music in a big way. The technological resources that are available to a composer or producer today are absolutely staggering to someone who left the business in the 1990s; every week it seems I run across something that was only a dream back when I was working in the field. I'm looking forward to exploring the modern world of music technology; in a sense I'm both an old veteran and a complete newbie....
