Adrian Allan replied to Becca Kephart's discussion Locrian Meditations for Trumpet
"It's a good idea to experiment with different modes, but I'm not all that convinced by the melodic invention here. It sounds a little too much like arpeggio practice - I think that some more conventional rhythmic groups would have added form to the…"

Simon Godden replied to Becca Kephart's discussion Locrian Meditations for Trumpet
"This is not a good piece in the making.  The trouble with writing in Locrian mode (and we've all tried it) is that the tonic chord is diminished, so no matter how you harmonise a Locrian melody, you will always feel that you are being pushed…"

Tyler Hughes replied to Becca Kephart's discussion Locrian Meditations for Trumpet
"This is a good piece in the making, but I feel that there could be more to it. The meditation aspect I thought could have been more exploited. Also some more effects could also lend itself to the effect you were going for. Overall not a bad piece of…"

Becca Kephart replied to Tombo Rombo's discussion Attack of the Hippy Robots
"What do you want the piece to be?  Do you want it to groove?  If so adding bass and a more consistent beat would be cool.  There are some interesting sounds in there, but I think there needs to be something to break up the monotony of the "robots".…"

Becca Kephart replied to Becca Kephart's discussion Abraham Ille Respodit Adsum for SATB
"Thank you for your responses! When setting out to write an a cappella for some reason the word "Abraham" kept coming to me, so I selected the latin vulgate version of Genesis 22:1b which is indeed the passage where God tests Abraham's faith by…"

Andrew Gleibman replied to Becca Kephart's discussion Abraham Ille Respodit Adsum for SATB
"Sounds interesting, and this is a good room for singer's playing with their voices. My ear though requires some string pizzicato or harp intrusions where the 4/4 vs 5/4 meters follow each other. For example, adding some arpeggio harp chords on the…"

"Thanks! I use Sibelius.  I used Finale in my undergrad 10 years ago, but I made the switch to Sibelius when I graduated and got a Mac.  I really really love Sibelius, but I want to learn Finale so I can teach either."

  • Your music is great! "Water Like Fire" blew my mind. I love music that doesn't remind me of something I've heard before and that was definitely unique. I've been a percussionist for almost ten years now and was going to the University of Central Oklahoma last year to get my bachelor's in percussion, so that and piano is about all I write for. Do you use Sibelius, Finale, or anything like that?
  • I was a percussion instructor back in Missouri, but I was getting really burned out at the school I was working at. I just got hired at a Casey's here in town. lol (kind of lame) but I'm hoping to maybe get into Cowley County College in Ark City next fall to finish out my music degree. What brings you out to the amazing plains of Kansas? haha
  • Hi Becca,

I noticed you live in Overland Park. That's wicked! I just recently moved to Belle Plaine, KS a few weeks ago from Missouri. Anyway, great to have you here! :)

    Cheers,

    Allison
