Is there nothing worthwhile or enjoyable in my posted compositions because they are written in a style you think is outdated or unsuitable to your tastes? Anyone can interact with any music--whether they like it or not depends on a mystery none of us can truly answer subjectively.
I think I understand what you are saying, but I am not intentionally trying to emulate or "copy", as you say, a particular style. I have never made any claim to being as good as Beethoven, Mendelssohn, etc... One can only dream such fantasies, and it would take incredible arrogance and myopia to think that way. I write what is in my head, and yes I do listen to and greatly appreciate/enjoy composers from the classical period, and it certainly has influenced my composition; however, this does not mean that I don't have other influences from today's world that shape my style. After all, I live in today's world. I write and listen to music that speaks to me (which includes hundreds of different artists and styles) . Whether it speaks from the fifth or the twenty-first century is irrelevant. Why do people still listen to and love music from centuries past, i.e. Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Strauss, etc...? It is because some music is timeless. I think a small portion of modern music will be timeless and much of it will be easily forgotten. This happens to all art forms. Tastes and preferences change frequently. The question I ask is "Do I like to hear it, and might others enjoy hearing it as well?" That is the only thing with which I concern myself.
By the way, I don't write all compositions in the same way or style. The current ones posted are a very small fraction of all the music I have written in my lifetime. There will be more to come. Perhaps you will find them less stylistic and more fitting with your tastes...
