"Dig it! Gauvin and Randazo went to my high school in Huntington Long Island. They were there 25 before me of course. Randazo is now a chef. I actualy met Joe through our mutual friend David Berger. Berger used to lead the Lincoln Center Jazz…"

"Yeah, I see all those guys from time to time. You must also know Alan Gauvin and John Marshall, right?"

"Lanny Morgan! That explains it. Say, my lead alto man in NYC says he knew you back in Texas. Do you remember Chuck Wilson?"

"I checked out Blueonious on your websight. You're swinging 'em into bad health. I noticed you're from Bellingham. Is that Chuck Isreals at the bass? It's hard to tell out of my little laptop speakers, I'll have to listen again to your stuff in my…"

"Hi Phil, thanks for checking out my sight. The big band track there isn't really my band, it's just me and two other cats playing all of the parts. That should explain why the drummer sucked, because it was me! Anyway, there are some clips of my big…"

"The all fake band sounds like the demo, not a final. Also the lack of any proper jazz vocabulary adds to the "cheese factor".

I know, a gig is a gig, and it's only a commercial, right?"

  • Hi Andy:

Just an update vis a vis the NW windpassers new CD I'm recording @ the end of May: This time, I've got another NYC connection -I've convinced Jerry Dodgion to come out and play lead alto for the sessions! I'm hoping a bit of the old Thad and Mel vibe rubs off on the band this time around!

hope your birdland gig is going well:

  • yup . .
my late wife Kathy was @ NTSU with Alan ( when she was still married to a guy named Jay Pruitt )
  • Chuck Wilson :

wow! ..we're one degree of separation ... :)

Hell yes! Small world dept appears again. Be sure and tell Chuck "Hi " from me .I even recall playing gigs with him back when I still played drums!

Have you bumped into any more of the former NTSU NYC mafia as well? ( Lou Marini - the late Jerry Chamberlain -Joe Randazzo -Bill Mays - -Marv Stamm among them )
  • Andy:

Thanks for the nice words ...

Bluelonius was the LA band. The bass player was Tom Warrington and the lead alto was Lanny Morgan
( along with a whole herd of LA usual suspects.)
Chuck is still teaching up here @ WWU, but my usual bass player in the NW band is Chuck Deardorf from Seattle.
  • Hi Andy :

Found your band on you toob - again, really nice mainstream Basieish stuff . At least , you have the luxury of being able to do some live performances to keep the guys tuned in . In my case, the "bands" are spread all up and down the west coast and have necessitated my projects basically being studio recordings when I can get the proper guys corraled for a few days -( hence the NW /SW names on my CDs )

    cheers:
