Albert De La Vega replied to Sylvester Wager's discussion The Composer as an Expensive Hobby
"Hello Sylvester, very interesting discussion indeed. At the end of the day, what do you want to get out of your compositions? Apparently, it seems that it has worked out for you that you may NOT require all of the bells and whistles, but the…"

"Thanks for the honest reply and insight, James.

At this point, I will probably pick up LASS and VE Pro (and Hollywood Strings when EW decides to have a sale :). As always, it is a pleasure to read and learn from your blogs. Cheers mate"

"Hey James,

As a user of the EAST WEST family of VST's (started with silver and ended up with the Platinum PLAY version), I find the format be it Kontact or Play to be fairly user friendly, and just perusing over your blog it would appear (at least…"

Chris Merritt replied to Albert De La Vega's discussion I want to kill my computer...
"Before you worry about a RAID array, just consider a couple of very fast drives with a backup. Maybe Raptors or SSD's with a 1TB drive backing them up."

Albert De La Vega replied to Albert De La Vega's discussion I want to kill my computer...
"Thank you pair of Chris's!!!! I will follow your advice and will get back to you. I gotta do some studying & research to learn how to partition the drives and set up a RAID array??

Also, BACKUP is key in both of your statements. Makes perfect…"

Chris Merritt replied to Albert De La Vega's discussion I want to kill my computer...
"I use WD 10k rom Raptor Drives. I have a 300GB one for my C drive, with all the programs installed there. I have a RAID array of 8 150GB raptor drives set up as my 'D' drive, where all of the samples are installed.

I guess for you I might recommend…"

"Hey Chris, how are you? Thanks for your lengthy and insightful reply sometime ago on this topic.

Do you own the Barracudas/have them installed currently? I ask because my 1TB Barracuda which stored all my VST's (choirs, MOR, Silk, Gypsy, Goliath,…"

"Hey Ray, how are you?

NO I MOST CERTAINLY HAVE NOT SOLD ANY GUITARS!!!!! NOR WILL I

Albert De La Vega replied to Albert De La Vega's discussion I want to kill my computer...
"Hey Chris,

Believe it or not, your advice to check / download drivers led me to links describing the flaws of the hard drive itself (it just freezes and disappears). This may be the cause of everything.

Thanks you so much, your help was…"

"Hey Ray, how are you?

Your initial suggestion to switch to a Quad Core helped-a-plenty, but just found out today that my model of Seagate 1tb HD has a penchant for "self-bricking" or disappearing from the BIOS completely, although the disc still…"

Albert De La Vega replied to Albert De La Vega's discussion I want to kill my computer...
"Thank you Chris!! I had disabled the Soundmax at the time you suggested it, but not in the BIOS. I also never properly tweaked my BIOS which may also be an issue?

I will try updating all software and eliminating any unnecessary crap, but I may just…"

Chris Merritt replied to Albert De La Vega's discussion I want to kill my computer...
"Hey! Here are some new thoughts on this:

You should disable the soundmax on the motherboard in the BIOS. If that is impossible, disable it in the device manager. You will NEVER get good performance using it anyway. The drivers for it will not allow…"

  • grazie ! e scusa se non ho ancora ascoltato i tuoi lavori... ma non sono dell'umore giusto (I'm not in the right mood for listening..) :-)
  • Grazie Albert :-)
  • Thanks, yes I spent alot of time finding the correct sounds when I work with my pieces. Try to keep get the best sounds I can find and get them to work together in harmony to bring the composition forward...and into the open-ness. =)
  • Nice virtuosity in you piano concerto. All your pieces end rather abruptly. What libraries are you using?
  • Thanks for your kind words, Albert.
  • Εννοείται πως δε σας άρεσε το κομμάτι;
  • Hey Alex! I'm doing well! How are you? I would like to expand my sample library at some point (currently using Logic and VSL). Anyway, thank you for your kind words regarding "Lullaby." I really enjoyed writing it...especially since it was just for fun and under no time constraint! =) I think those are the pieces that sometimes come out the best! ;-)
  • Hi Alex! Thanks so much! I'm loving your music...especially "Marty..." and "David Roland..." What sample library do you use? Sounds great!!
  • Albert,

Thanks for the friend add. I'm really enjoying your music. "Vasiliev..." reminds me of Elfman, in that slightly-demented-circus-music kinda way (not a bad thing, in my opinion).
  • Hey Albert! Glad to have you here! Thanks for the note!
