"Lennart Östman said:Thanks Ian and Al. I'm very glad you liked it! The themes do repeat themselves a bit too much. I will correct that in the next piece I compose. I tend to vary each movement with the orchestration rather than the melodic content.…"

Al Johnston replied to Viktor Mastoridis's discussion List of most important musical works - any genre
"Be careful not to conflate importance with influence.
Musical tradition in the West began to value contrast over monotony, ordered chaos over featureless eternity, during the age known as the Enlightenment (roughly, the 18th century). The…"

I just finished writing on another forum that my music stems from an older tradition than that of my young critic. (I'm sure he was surprised to read that his music has a tradition.) How pleased I was to hear then your fine…"

Al Johnston commented on David Unger's blog post New string quartet complete! (with expanded development as of December 7th)
"You can be justly proud to have finished this quartet. It is worth listening to. I would like to see it posted as a video on my Google+ community, "Sheetmusic Playback of Original Music.""

  • Greetings Al.

I like your piano works. They are very sensitive pieces. Thanks for sharing.

    Very best,

    Larry Elliott

  • Wow, thank you!  I really appreciate your comment.  What exactly do you mean when you talk about delving into the tonal centers?  I know a decent bit about chords and can play pretty well on a piano (I have one).  What do you mean by tempered/untempered?  I really would like to dig in to what you have mentioned but some specification could help.

I will give that ballet a listen.

    Thanks again for the comments.

  • Thank you Al for the listening and the careful comments.

I somehow have always heard the repetition exactly in the same register, be it string quartets, symphonies or sonatas. But I will listen to the examples otherwise and I am sure it will be effective.

I look forward to listening to your works as well!

    Best,

    Anand

  • Welcome Al! Hope you enjoy the forum!
