I have very wide interests, but my music is unashamedly melodic.

Congratulations, a nice work; I like the way the viola line runs, it would be very satisfying to play, and with the underlying harmony it seems to evoke a certain nostalgia.
I have finally been able to watch and listen to 'Angel Meadow'.
I think your music works perfectly with the very striking and poignant images.
The main theme is very beautiful and establishes the mood immediately. It is is well developed throughout the piece.
The orchestration is excellent, the choice of instruments works extremely well with the visuals and shows real flair.
I suppose the piece is essentially pastiche but the style is absolutely right for the subject matter.
The way you use the main theme reminds me a little of the late Michael Kamen,a composer I admire a lot.
I don't know if you are familiar with his amazing music for 'Band of Brothers' if not check it out and you'll see what I mean.
Well done, Ireally enjoyed it.

have just been trying to view 'Angel Field' but it doesn't seem to be streaming properly.
Maybe it's my computer. is there another way i can view it as the bit I managed to see looks and sounds great.

I was going to listen to the piece (manchester) you mentioned and I seem to have lost the links. Could you resend them please.
paul
I'll have a look/listen to your piecein a day or so. Sounds an interesting project.
Meanwhile perhaps you can help me.
I have uploaded some pieces but some of the titles appear to be in Chinese!
I edited them in the appropriate place but where they play back it is still in oriental script which I can't seem to edit..
Cheers
Paul
Hope it was all good!
I have always had a double life as a performer playing jazz and classical music but also lots of radio,Tv,and recording sessions. A different world now though.
As a composer and arranger I started when todays technology was viewed as science fiction! There is still something seductive about writing by hand but having used Sibelius since 1999 I certainly wouldn't be without it.
I used to drive across the Pennines to meet my copyist Maurice Wray in a car park to exchange scores and parts!
A familiar sound would be the plop of a bundle of parts arriving through my letter box sometimes at 4 in the morning.
Thank god for email!
Composing is a tough job these days there are 2 or more generations who never went along the traditional route and whose music is wholly dependent on current technology. This doesn't detract from the quality of what they produce, there are some immensely talented composers out there.
I would be interested in hearing more of your music.
Incidentally I wrote a concerto for Craig Ogden a few years ago which is still awaiting a performance.
Just had a listen to your Nonet which I like very much.
I think you create some very interesting textures.
An odd ensemble but I like to write for unusual combinations.a recent piece 'One Small Step' was for French Horn,Tuba,Vibraphone,Guitar and piano.
My Concerto for Saxophone Quartet 'Louisiana' is scored for sax Quartet, 2 Tpts, Horn, trombone,Tuba,Piano,Double Bass,Banjo,Accordian and 2 percussion!
Makes the job more interesting I think. As for comments about quality of samples etc. I think as composers we should be able to look beyond this and hear the actual sounds in our heads.
Time was when the only technology available was pencil and paper.
Anyway Best wishes Paul Mitchell-Davidson
I very much appreciate the ability of making long tracks without the listener losing interest these days, and have listened to it in a loop! Nice work, thanks for sharing!
