Yes, I did say five.
You do not have to say why.
Just put them in order from favorite to fifth favorite.
1. Beethoven
2. Tchaikovsky
3. Frank *EDIT* Franck (sorry, I never spell his name correctly)
4. Liszt
5. Schubert
If your opinions differ (by that I mean if you hate a composer that someone else loves), please be civil in your arguments. That is more of a reminder for me than a request for you :)
Since I can still edit my list (hehehehe) I have a new one
1. Beethoven
2. Tchaikovsky
3. Strauss, R.
4. Shostakovitch
5. Barber for his Adagio (I've only heard that one piece by him)/ Mozart (For Sym. 40, Eine Kleine, violin+viola duets, Mass, and Requiem)
HM Liszt

I think it´s a very individual hit-list

1) Beethoven
2) Shostakovich
3) Ravel
4) Bach
5) Mahler
1) paul IF someone else was my favorite I wouldn't compose
2) Grieg Just by the amount of time I spent on the concerto ... For #1 And #2 I'm just being statistical. objective, empirical? I don't care if someone says I'm a lousy composer. I'll agree if the food is good and they're paying.
The rest are harder to rank.
3) Handel Beethoven said he was the greatest, but that's easy for Beethoven. Besides Handel makes you get a grasp of GOD Omnipotent riegneth better than anyone.
4) Beethoven I think he was a noble guy too.. hard to see him at #4 here.
5) Pucinni just for a couple of sweet pieces, Un Bel Di and O Mio Babbino Caro and the duet from the Pearl Fishers and I dont' like opera much. bunch of vowels.
I have more to say, but I've reached number 5 so I must recognize the parameters.
LOL - my list will consist of a mix of film, game, contemporary and classical composers. I can see the general taste is for classical. :) Its not in order and if you ask me tomorrow it might change. Five is just not enough and much too hard an exercise in deprivation for me. LOL
Nobuo Uematsu
Jeremy Soule
Claude Debussy
Michael Danna
Basil Paledouris
Danny Elfman, Yasunori Mitsuda, Trevor Jones, Hitoshi Sakimoto, Kanji Kodo, and more would have filled this list out better!
Hmm....
Josquin Des Prez
Thomas Tallis
Claudio Monteverdi
JS Bach
GF Händel
Top 5 lists are so unfair.
I must make a distinction between "Classical composers" (in the classical sense ;-)) and "Film composers" (in the classical sense :-p)
Classical:
1. J.S.Bach
2. D. Shostakovich
3. L.v. Beethoven
4. W.A. Mozart
5. Karl Jenkins
Film:
1. John Williams
2. Philip Glass
3. Jerry Goldsmith
4. John Barry
5. Thomas Newman
1 Ravel/Philip Glass
2 Gabriel Faure
3 Jonathan Newman
4 John Mackey
5 Steve Reich
Faure and Ravel are just ungodly pretty :D
