What to Charge Per Track for an Indie iPhone Game

Hey guys,

 

Good news! Someone has contacted me, after hearing my music, and wants me to write some music for an iPhone game they are working on! They want to know what I charge per track, but I don't know how to respond since I've never done a paid gig like this before. The guy doesn't have a huge budget, but he does not want to be unfair either. So, this is really gonna be my first paid job you could say, how much money should I ask for per track? 

 

Also, I have been told I should ask him for a contract. Now, he lives in Portugal, so how will that work out?

I can't give you a dollar amount (I'm hoping others will chime in for that!), but PLEASE, for the love of God, treat your work like there is value to it. Music is hard work and takes a lot of skill and a lot of talent. If he doesn't have a huge budget, that's HIS problem, not yours. If he can't afford your services, that's HIS problem, not yours. You have to decide what you're worth, what would make it worth your time, and whether his project is worthy of your time and attention. There is a project for every level of skill and experience out there. Sell yourself. Make him see that you are worth your salt. You don't need him. He needs you. Start with that attitude, as difficult as it may be.

Thanks! But I can't do this job until I get that Gold library working =/ that's why I really need to resolve that issue fast
