Music Composers Unite!

I seen there is a "Useless Drivel" thread. Can't seem to post to it. Is there a qualification to post there?

May I post useless drivel here Gav?

It’s a jail cell for junk postings that don’t quite rise to the level of needing to be deleted. Only admins can access it. Thankfully, the need to use it is rare -

Tim I've read your posts and there's no useless drivel there at all, so no, you're not qualified to post in that thread! :)

Here's some drivel that won't go anywhere else.

I thought I was developing a musical style - a sort of impressionist thing. I recently rebelled maybe encouraged here to TRY to be more formal which didn't really work so I ended up with free atonality. Been working on such stuff since last summer. Then the other day suddenly got fed up with it. I have two more pieces to complete a request. Luckily I can substitute something from another set already completed. I'll try but I need a break.

So I decided to try the unthinkable - complete Mo's Art's 43rd Symphony. He left it incomplete. All that remains is some blank score paper with clefs written down the left-hand side. Long time since I visited Mo's Art and Pizza Place, High Street, Salts-berg. I've had an occasional beefburger but never a saltzburger.

Happy drivelling,

Thanks Gav! I guess I'll need to post  my useless drivel here then!

Ingo, Thanks ! Aside from the usual stuff I occasionally have some useless drivel too ;) I hope to hear some drivel from you sometime as well !

Dane, I love coming here because I get exposed to all of these different ways of composing. I'll admit that some of it sounds totally alien to me, but then, I guess this is the idea. To compose music that doesn't follow a "formal" style. I wish you well in pursuing those dopamine atonal highs! I'm really more of a sponge at some of these concepts, so I'll eagerly be waiting for more examples of this.

Mo'Art LOL...........seems a very worthy and interesting pursuit. Please continue to share your thoughts on this!

If you get stuck, one shortcut for ending a piece is to just insert Shave and a Haircut and put a final black bar. You are legally allowed to do this anywhere in the piece, including at the beginning.

Gav,

I may have to resort to that. His spirit contacted me in a dream and warned that if I mess around with his music I may get grabbed by the short and köchels. Oh deary me.

Still, a bit of CPP may help to clear the slate.

 Dane, lol.

Gav......I see you haven't been using the shave too much ;) You look good in the beard though.

You know what? "Judging" the "Dancing" competition is the long haul. I checked the time I put into the "Machines" competition and it worked out at 6 minutes per entry, all included. That was for 3 minute compositions and about 10 entrants. Ok, now it's 44 entrants and 2 minute compositions, say 5 minutes average after drawing up a short-list. 4 hours if I allow myself a tea-break.....I'll have to add an extra day to the week to get it all in. Nice to have an eight day week here and there.

Still, a marathon is always a challenge.

:D

Dane I agree there's a lot of entries here.I think it's an easy theme in my opinion. If it's anything like the last contest I entered which wasn't here, I put a lot of time into it and it didn't even place. I thought my work was pretty decent then too. Here's the other thing, Even though there are no hard and fast rules, if this is judged by the locals here the funnel narrows considerably. The question then becomes, what are they looking for?

I mean, I can put something together than will make you want to shake with the loads and loads of dance loops I have. These aren't the kinds of things that will probably make the grade though...the criteria is probably more strict than that and I'm not exactly sure what that is....so I'll probably put something in with little hope that it hits the "sweet spot' of the general consensus.

Still I applaud Gav for his idea to do this. Not sure why you're doing it Gav. If this has a bigger picture of some kind I hope you will enlighten us. :)

No big picture, just some fun!

Gav I forget what fun is. Maybe this will help.

Yes, Gav, 100% applause for organising these things and doing the admin around them. They are fun and bring us all together a little more. SO, many thanks for that.
