Trying a symphony in G minor

I apologize for the quality, it was recorded through Audacity from MuseScore, and I lost the score from a computer crash, so I will have to re-score it. :-(

It is thus far really only thoughts being developed, but I would like to know the thoughts of the community about the direction it is heading ie if it seems to make good sense. I have the very first draft and the additions that are scratchpad examples of where I think I may go with it.

  • To follow up, in the second file, where there is the long unaccompanied violin part, I'm not in love with it...pretty sure I'm going to scrap it. The part after, where the melody switches to the major of the tonic (bad form?), that I don't think I can get rid of. I really really like the passage that ends it, but I don't know where and how it can fit.

I appreciate all feedback any way.

  • Whew! I was expecting to get roasted.

What I mean by "recorded through Audacity" is that I scored it in MuseScore and recorded the playback with Audacity...a poor choice, especially being that I overworked it (EQ boosting and whatnot)
. That explains what Michael comments above about the rendering distorting the ideas (which it absolutely does). My fault as "sound engineer" (which I'm not).

I did watch two vids of Bumble Boogie...I see what you're saying. Thanks for the impression, I'll have to keep that in mind.

And yes, save it in more than one place, I know. Pretty dumb of me. It's always saved in my head, though!

Michael, I've never written anything for piano before (at least not that I'm aware of).

I appreciate the feedback from you guys. I hope I can get it progressing and let you have another listen. I just wanted to get something on here because I haven't really ever had an opportunity to interact with other people that compose music before.

    What does that mean?

I don't know if it's on purpose, but you've got kind of a "Bumble Boogie" ( youtube it) bass line going there. I mean the feel is not typical "symphony" stuff. Doesn't matter, I like it. You've got a long road ahead, but I think it'll be worth it.

Can't say much more until you've got more done. Oh, except, now you know to save important stuff in more than one place, don't you.

  • Don't record with Audacity something you playback in MuseScore. Instead you can export from MuseScore to a wav file, which you can open in Audacity. It's quicker and you'll get a cleaner sound to operate with - if you really need to do anything to it in Audacity.
