Hello everyone :) I am new here, and I figured I would post my most recent song to see if anyone likes it. This is basically the thematic suite of a project I have been working on for a while. The story is about a non-human girl who is searching for her father among a desolate land of shattered planets. It's sort of a cosmic fantasy, full of adventure and danger... the usual heh. But it is highly focused on the personal journey of the young girl, as she explores the remnants of her world, encounters nightmarish creatures, and befriends misfit survivors along the way. So the music, while sometimes vast in scope and adventurous, also has an underlying sense of loneliness, darkness, and innocent hope that is hinted at. If ya have some spare time, as this is over 8 minutes long, please give it a go and I appreciate any comments. Thanks for listening! XD -Samo

  • Well, welcome to the forum.
This was a great first post! the beginning was "catchy" .It drew my attention.
The music was gorgeous and I don´t say this to everyone. Of course the quality of the samples (Ewql perhaps?) is a major plus.

The only thing I´d have to say is that I didn´t seem to notice a theme for the girl.. If you are writing something this long (8 minutes isn´t long but it´s easy to get "lost" in the music") you should have leitmotifs for the girl..at least...

All in all, I very much liked it. Keep it up!
  • Hi Miguel,

I'm glad you liked it! XD Oh, here is a break-down of the themes- probably should have posted this before heh...

The main theme of Drifting Dreams (the name of the project) begins immediately and also re-appears at 2 min, and is hinted at during several other parts and finishes out the song

Iris's theme, the main character, begins about 2:32 and also returns at 5:40 to be fully realized at about 6:12

The "darkness" theme begins about 3:50, and the wild friends come to the rescue at 4:42, which is why there is a dramatic change

Also, at about 5 min, the main theme returns but is more dramatic because the pieces are kind of coming together and the sincerity of the journey is becoming apparent in the story at this point, which then moves into Iris's theme right with more determination
  • hey,
as miguel mentioned the begining is catchy, I really liked it, and the whole piece in general. I mean it's not the type of music I listen to , but I did like it. It sounds very grand and it does take you to a fantasy like world. Only thing that might've bothered me, hehe, and it is probably only me, since I like the melancholic music is that the darkness theme seemed to be too short, and not as passionate as the rest of the piece, although that might be your goal. but the first time I listened to it, it passed by me without letting me notice that the "darkness" had come. hehe, just my opinion though!
otherwise, good stuff! (y) [thumb up sign]
  • Thanks :) Yeah the dark part was really only hinted at in this, like sort of passing by it, but not getting too deep into it. The main focus of this was the overall journey really. Darker pieces would come later. But I'm glad you liked it! XD

  • This is very very nice. I have a question. What FONTS/VST are you using? And what software package?

    Thanks

  • Thanks,

Libraries include GPO and EWQLSO Gold primarily, with Wivi for extra brass, and the choirs from EastWest.

As for DAW, I use Sonar for all my compositions.
